Gonna be breezy with a real feel of 14 degrees...I'll be carrying my VZ-24(yugo barrel, 4x38 Weaver, Micky stock) in 8x57 using 200gr Speer Hot Cor's...unless the new baby shows up on opening morning.

I don't always shoot Mausers, but when I do...I prefer VZ-24s.

If the baby does show up on opening morning, and it's a boy, consider "Buck" for a name (or at least a nickname.)

"Buck" would be good. I grew up with a kid that had the nickname "Tag".

How about hunting styles? stand hunting, still hunting, or drives. Mostly stand for me, with some still hunting if conditions are right...wet leaves. Maybe some drives later in the week.

I'll be toting a Model 600 chambered in 35 Rem. Supposed to be 25* - 30* and windy by us opening weekend. I like the temps but the wind can [bleep] off.

Are you going to train them to shoot a 35 Whelen at some point? They already have 7600's in 35Rem. However, if they ever decide to step up, I just happen to know where two 7600's in 35Whelen are located.

That's encouraging. With that big country, they have a lot of room to roam, for sure...think, 'Tinks'.

I'll be hunting in taylor co again this year. I'll be using either my marlin 45 70 or my 264 win mag with 140 partitions. I'll also have my Blackhawk 44. Good luck to all the deer hunters

I'll have the .280 along as well. We'll be up in sand country in Douglas Co. Neat area that I've been around all my life but never hunted anything but grouse around there.

My 20" Criterion AR-15 and 260 Rem for sure. Maybe my uncle's Winchester pumpkin thrower that he gave me 2 days before he died.
Weather appears to be 40 for a high. Could change though. Good on ya for honoring your Uncle by bringing his slug gun out of retirement. Great to see the "tire iron" hit the field one more time.

I have decided to use Tinks this year . I got a bunch for free. It might be old though. In October I started a thread on Tink's and there were some interesting comments, pro and con. I happen to be a con man and will be using it this season. I soak a round cotton makeup pad and apply it to the bottom of my LaCrosse Iceman's and walk to my stand. Time and time again, deer have followed the scent trail.

[/quote] Did you ever sell the one you had listed Paul? No, I got tired of the low-ball tire kickers and decided to keep it. Twin grandsons, twin Whelens. Not too sure they would ever use them BUT ya never know.

27 for a low 32 for a high in La Crosse. I'll use my Tikka Superlite 30-06, I have many different choices but at less than 300yds, we know how great they are. No wolves here yet but they keep me from hunting at a friends cabin in Winter Wi.

I have heard of sightings on thee north end of Fort Mc Coy. Had a nice verified picture of a mountain lion last year, but for some reason an occasional cougar doesn't bother me so much as a Wolf pack.
