All the recent data says there is little difference in effectiveness between 9mm, .40 and .45 as long as good bullets are used. So it's really personal preference. Some even like .380 although that's getting a bit light for me. But as many have said, it doesn't matter what caliber your handgun is if you don't have it when you need it. I used to carry a .40 mostly and sometimes a .45, but have now moved to a 9mm Glock 19 or 26 because I shoot them a little better and capacity is a bit more for the size. Plus I shoot a 9mm Glock in competition so I'm used to the way it feels. I carry a Glock 36 .45 out in the mountains because it has more power/penetration for large animals. In the end it's all personal preference.

All my pistol bullets are either truncated cone or round flat nose with a large meplat.

No down side to higher capacity and that goes to the 9.

Really? So there were enemy combatents that got hit with both and lived to tell?

For uniform daily carry I preferred the 40 Glock with higher cap mags. This even though I prefer the 45ACP round overall. Liked the security of additional rounds as with my shooting record more was better. eek grin GW

That's why I said "with good ammo."

wink

Federal HST 124gr +P stacked 15-deep in my G19 has me feeling warm and fuzzy compared to a 5-shot snubby I used to carry.

My daughter carries one in .40S&W. She really likes it. I've shot it and it worked just fine. Fairly accurate, too.

It does "snap" a little with 180gr XTP's. grin

40 S&W was the answer to capacity with the ability to shoot a heavier bullet. In between so to speak for the 9mm and 45acp.

It has served the Border Patrol very well in their Officer Involved Shootings using a 155 bullet! They led or continue to lead all other police agencies in OIS, so they were a great source of ballistic information. With the current administration tying their hands to do their job, they may not be anymore?

The 10mm short (.40 S&W) came about because there were whimps and girls in the FBI that couldn't handle the 10mm.

I don't think you could tell the difference if I shot you with a 147gr. 9mm or. 155gr. .40.

i don't have that model, but i do have an xd. pulled it out this evening and was considering it. it plus three spare mags is a lot of firepower, and a lot of weight.
My grandson blew one up with a squibb load, split the barrel. That was replaced and it's still ticking.

i realize that but another way of looking at it:
14 rounds 230 grains is 3220
17 rounds of 124 gr. is 2417
guys alway say it isn't the size that matters it's the technique.
girls say that is not true.
