B, I stuck an Edge on my Sako A7 300 WSM and it helped a lot in reducing felt recoil.
Rifle weighs a little over 7lbs with a 6x42 Leupold.

B; Everyone has their own recoil thresholds. With a 300 magnum I don't want less than 8#'s scoped and hunted elk for years to 10,000 ft with an 8.25-8.5 lb. 300 Win Mag. I even built one that came in at 7.5,thinking that would be great. I found out otherwise and tore the thing down.
I know a 300 WSM recoils a tad less but once I get to 300 magnum-level recoil 8 is as light as I would want....and don't want any anymore cause mine are all gone, replaced by 7 mags and 30/06.
I understand the light rifle attraction completely but also believe that I like to keep cartridge choices in the 270/280/7 mag level for anything lighter. That's just me and you may find differently.
I can see just dropping your 300WSM into a McMillan.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

These Kimber 8400 WSM's weigh less than a old pre-64 M70 Featherweight with only a 22" barrel instead of the Kimbers 24"
Not much of a feat if that's your yardstick, IMO. Lotsa guns beat P64 "feather" weights.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.

The important thing here is to realize your recoil limits and plan accordingly. No one has anything to prove to someone else.

I wouldn't be too concerned. I have a browning mountain ti in 325 WSM that is just under 6 pounds scoped and it's not too pad at all. Don't pysche yourself out.

I agree, recoil isn't bad at all. I'm shooting 220 gr @ 2730. But I do regularly practice with my hunting loads. This rifle was up for sale along with my 280 AI Montana and I was going to keep whichever one didn't sale. I liked the 280, particularly the "texture" of the the stock. But I'm VERY happy with the 325, altho I think as far as WSM's are concerned the 300 is probably the way to go, particularly if you do not handload. I see factory ammo (300 WSM) pretty much everywhere I look. 325...not so much! Terry
