The first deer I ever got with a 300WinMag was a month ago with a Mosin Nagant I converted with a 22" Krieger barrel.

125 gr Nosler Ballistic tips 66 gr IMR-4166 3200 fps 47kpsi

Why so wimpy? That is what it wanted to shoot.

Yup,along with a 7x57 or any big game cartridge I own. It makes excellent practice for hunting big game before the season starts.

I use my deer rifles for woodchucks in the summer but stick with the .22LR for small game as I like to eat the cottontails and squirrels I shoot. Two of my main deer rifles are a .223 and a .243 so they do make good chuck rifles.

I don't eat rabbits or squirrels, just use them for practice. wink

Paid off using the 7x57 on jackrabbits this year. Although the shot was only 110 yds,was very confident in the rifle. Used the same load (160 gr Sierra GK) on deer and rabbits.

12, The .300 is my favorite big game caliber. Have been shooting my old 700 since the 70's.. It is now on its 3rd barrel, and still shooting great.. I should count up the big game it has taken.. I am certain well over 100 head.. In the days before range finders and turrets it kept our house in meat for many winters.. Now I have a second one.. Use it for very open hunting.. Used in in Pa. to watch old strip mines..
The shots were long, and little time to shoot.. It is the best I have tried for this kind of shooting..

Like you I have shot deer with .338, 340, and 45-70.. None with my .375 but have used it on antelope.. Plus have shot deer with most of the common calibers from the Hornet right on up.. Shoot straight and hope you get a big one..

Cool picture. Congrats. Jackrabbit hunting is the way to go. For those here that didn't grow up shooting jacks on the run, surely missed out. No better way to hone the skills IMHO...
