thats pretty much what i would do, as i said, i have a colt that this was done to years ago.
I don't think i would want to turn it into a .44magnum

I've had a 544 for years. Shoot it a bit, but find that reloading the .44-40 is a PITA, as you can't use carbide dies like a straight-wall case. That, and the case-mouths are very thin and fragile...I bet Starline has thicker case-mouthed brass, but I've never acquired any to try. I believe I will pin gauge the 544 cylinder, then drop a pin gauge down the barrel and compare it with a model 29 (.44) to see the difference. Of course, this won't be groove diameter, but bore.

I prefer the 5" Classic with full underlug to any other N-Frame.
I've owned several over the years and like you, would love to find another 629 5" one day.
This 625-5 Classic in .45 Colt is going nowhere!

I agree the 5" 629 classic or 29 classic is something special indeed. They weigh the same as a standard 6" 629 but are more pleasant to shoot because of the weight forward on the barrel. Nothing wrong with a 6.5" classic either.

I like the full lugged and standard 629's equally.
