Can a Tikka T3 safety be switched to either a 3-position safety or made so that the bolt can be opened while the safety is engaged?

I'm not at all happy about the fact that you must disengage the safety in order to open the bolt and clear the chamber.

Thanks!
Chris

I saw an aftermarket conversion kit that some overseas posse make, but they liked their stuff.

REALLY really liked their stuff.

DON´T buy through Roedale!!!

I have seen posts of disgruntal customers from all over the world, and several different webforums about their poor CS. And this has gone on for years!

Funny thing, the bolt locking safety is a feature I really like on the T3.

I could see how that feature would be appealing to people....I just HATE taking a gun OFF SAFE to unload the chamber and don't really understand the logic by the manufacturer to design it that way. Seems counter-intuitive to me.

Other than that....I LOVE my T3 and it has become my "go to" rifle!

I was always in your camp until I bought my 700 300 WM. After missing a shot, and always checking to see if my bolt handle had gotten lifted, it was a relief to find my t3 locked the bolt down. Think about it, you know you are going to off safe, you are somewhere safe and unloading your gun. If you follow basic safety rules (and while know lapses happen, this is a time when you know to pay attention) and it goes bang, you wasted a shell, and killed the dirt. Shouldn't happen, probably won't happen, but if it does it should not be a big deal. Saw my dad do it once, old 700,light trigger, readjusted trigger, never happened again and no big deal. It did make everyone present much more aware. Not to be cavalier about safety, but guns, like chainsaws, are dangerous and no practical safety can change that.

I don't remember exactly how it works, but the bolt lock is a plunger that is raised by the safety. You can probably remove some part of that system and keep the bolt unlocked. Just be sure it does not affect the safety or the springs.
