One of the best things I ate in Kazakhstan were potato piroshki. My wife's tried making them, but somehow they just don't quite have the flavor.
The chicken shashlik over there was pretty good as well I spent 2 1/2 years in Kazakhstan both offshore in the Caspian and on shore via Atyrau and it was the pit of my life both personally and professionally. That said, I am retired at 53.... two a dw=

Tough to limit it to just five.
1) Gumbo (Seafood, Chicken or Duck with Andouille).
2) Shrimp and Grits
3) Pulled Pork w/ Vinegar based sauce
4) Fried Grouper Sandwich
5) Grilled Elk steaks with skillet fried potatoes & onions, and a bourbon of your choice sitting around a campfire with friends.
And I will always have a soft spot for a good pasty (it must have been all those years in da UP).

Late to the party, but I like the topic.
Tough to limit to just 5, Mike, but I will try . . .
1. Pork cutlets with mashed potatoes, pan gravy and corn. The pork cutlets I refer to are tenderized pork cheeks, not thin-cut tenderized boneless pork chops . . . Might just be a mid-west thing. 2. Sausage gravy and home made biscuits. 3. Hamburger pie, at least that's what my Mom called it. Kind of a shepherd's pie with just ground beef, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. 4. Potato soup . . . with lots of onions. Started with bacon AND salt pork. 5. Popovers with all the trimmings on Christmas morning. A tradition my bride and I started with our kids almost 40 years ago. The kids are gone, but the tradition carries on.
I could keep going, but I promised to limit my list to 5. Can ya tell my heritage is Danish, German and Irish?
Someday I hope to be the person my dogs think I am . . . The only true cost of having a dog is its death. Someone once said "a nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves." Shiloh Sharps . . . there is no substitute. NRA Endowment Member

I get prime rib often. I like it tender, rare and with a sweet potato. When the restaurant has a salad bar I put extra blue cheese dressing on the salad.
