These numbers are the ones quoted by Madis in his smaller publication "The Winchester Handbook". I don't have the page number as my copy walked away at a gunshow. BillR

The millionth 1894 Winchester was produced in early 1927. Any guns produced after that date were not counted. I know there was a later run of 25-35 carbines as you still see them occasionaly at gunshows. I don`t know how Madis got these numbers but so much more is available on Winchesters as they have computerized all of their records. I think Madis passed away a few years back so we will never know where he found his data. The Winchester Book refers to a count in 1932 when all records were still available. I can`t help but wonder how long it would take to do a caliber count for Savages from 10,000 up to the 193,000 range when Savage Arms Corporation became the company name.
303 30-30 22 HP 250-3000 38-55 25-35 32-40
7 calibers over 183000 guns approximately. Maybe someday we will know the numbers. BillR

"mod 1899 A 32-40 TD 52192"
Is that info correct? The serial is way early for a TD. Have you lettered it?

Thanks Jim, I now have records on 249 Savage 1899s in these 3 calibers. At about 500 guns I should have a fairly valid sample to estimate relative production of each model in these calibers. At this point it appears that a "Short Rifle/takedown" in any of these three calibers is very scarce. BillR
