I mostly don't crimp, but I have had excellent results from crimped cartridges. I'm picky about consistent case lengths when I do crimp.

Cartridges and rifles will be 25-06(Rem 700), 270 Win(Win 70), and 7mm SAUM (Rem 7).

no, no , probably not but might try it both ways to see if there was any difference in accuracy and check for bullet set back on uncrimped ammo. I usually don't start crimpinmg till heavy 308/30-06 loads or tube fed stuff unless I see other reasons to.

A bolt gun, no. A lever gun, yep.

I set my die so it just barely crimps for most of my rifle cartridges. A little secret there is it helps with run-out.... . I only use el-cheapo RCBS FL dies and run-out is kept to less than .003" when properly set up...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I've mostly done it to make up some factory appearing cartridges. No real technical reason.

10's of thousands of rounds fired and I only crimp lever action and handgun cartridges. Taper crimp on semi auto handgun cartridges and roll crimp into the cannulure for the AR in 223.
No need to crimp bolt action rifle cartridges

Do y'all crimp or not crimp your rifle hunting rounds? Which is best for hunting loads? Revolvers, semi autos, lever actions, big bore bolt guns and double rifles, yes, everything else, no.

I crimp my 350 mag ammo for my Rem 660. I loaded a round in the magazine and then chambered a round for two shots and the bullet in the magazine moved out. I had a Lee factory crimp die made. I crimp my 5.56 ammo for my M-4 too.

No need to crimp bolt action rounds.
But, like mathman, I sometimes crimp, especially Barnes with those grooves. I just can't help myself...
Just looks more betta...
