I don't know about the 250s, but a stiff dose of RL15 behind a 270gr TSX has a reputation as a tack driver.

+2 on R15 and the 250s but work up slowly there was a big discrepancy in the max data from the different manuals and different 250 grain bullets. About a six grain difference if I recall correctly.

Some checked out fine in cool weather only to be too hot for hot weather. Had to disassemble what I thought were good loads.

78 grains is my .375 Weatherby load. Work up in your H&H, for sure. (75 grains more likely...)

I use 74gr RL-15 with 270 TSXs. Great accuracy and no issues.

Hey RJ, call TY at Barnes, tell him what ya got, and he'll point ya in the right direction with several different powders, and maybe even a good one you already have on the shelf.

Fellas,

How are those 270 tsx bullets on game at < 50 yards? Specifically, working on the initial stages of a black bear hunt in northern NH this fall and am wondering about this.

thanks.

Been shooting 250 gr bullets(not Barnes) in the 375H&H since the 80's sometime,at first with 4064 but later found RL15 to be a bit better.Don't recall when I started with R15,but my top load in my rifle is 77-78 gr with Fed 215 primer in WW brass for a bit over 2900 fps.Primer pockets stay tight and I have run the same load in several 375's with similar results.

Recently did the same with RP brass as Winchester stuff dried up.....works well.

Obviously work up to this, and a good idea may be to get some 250 Sierra's for initial workup, and as an accurate and cheaper practice bullet. You will maybe find the Barnes and Sierra's go the same place, and can be interchanged without rezero.

Follow the good advise above to work up to these levels and be safe.

Start with 75 gr 4895 and Federal magnums. Max is probably 78-81 gr.

I use 78gr of RL 15 w/ a 250 TTSX in my .375 HH XCR II. I shot a moose this year (details in General Big Game forum) using this load. I tried other powders, but this one worked very well. I get 2824 fps, but one of the shots went into its chest and came out at the last rib!

I have been loading 77-78 gr RL15 with the 250 Sierra and Bitterroot for quite a few years...no issues in an Atkinson and Krieger barrels, and with both WW and Rem cases.Pretty standard stuff.

But things may be different with a Remington barrel and different bullet.... and I would drop back to 74 gr and work back up. I would stop when velocities hit 2875 or so.

That seems about right to me....77 gr gives me 2880-2890 from a 24" Krieger 410 SS barrel.

I am still trying to find "the load" for my 375 R. Started with R17 and the 250-gr TTSX and worked up to 82-gr getting 2900 fps out of my Ruger's 23" barrel. Not an H&H though and started with the Alliant powder 'cause I have a lot of it and use it in three cartridges now. Have only shot a couple of groups so far but am getting little triangles of just over an inch.

May give you a reference point since these cases are so close in capacity.
