The couple of silver colored scopes I've tried never looked as good aesthetically once mounted as I first thought they might.
To my eyes, there was a very noticeable difference in the silver color of the scopes vs finish of stainless rifle metal, as well as the rings and bases.
(As always, YMMV.)

You can still get Leupold VX-3 3.5-10 for #350 at Natchez - best deals out there on Leupold scopes

I've always liked the look of silver scopes on stainless rifles. Must have silver rings and bases though.
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.
