I have a 2.5-8 Leupold on a really fine FN auctioned wood stocked .30-06 that has not moved poi in over twenty years. In fairness, I'm using the same lot of ammo from then until now. I have had a 3.5-10 AO on another rifle almost as long with no change.

Leupolds may or may not be behind the curve for knob twisters, I don't know as I do not participate. I try to shoot enough to be familiar with point blank and hold over to be successful. They have supposedly beefed up the springs in the new lineups, VX-3i. Also the next line up 2-12 etc.

I was at a gunshow yesterday and had a chance to look at the Nightforce scopes. All I can say is what a huge heavy hunk of metal. If you don't kill with your bullet you can club them to death with the scope. I can't imagine putting something that big and heavy on top of a hunting rifle no matter how good they are. The other thing I realized is that all the tiny hash marks make a very cluttered picture and they are hard to see depending on the background. The mil-dots are much easier.

I think I'm back to looking through the Bushnell LRHS which I didn't get a chance to see or a Leupold as a compromise to the weight. 20 oz seems to be about right for me. I will take a look at the Leupold Mark 4 LR/t 3.5-10x40 ffp M3.

The Nightforce 2-10x42 NXS compact is is sized to be very usable on a hunting rifle. Weighs about 20oz, which is a little lighter than the LRHS. It IS a 2fp scope, but in that zoom range, I don't see the 2fp as being much of a hindrance. Some of the more tactically oriented Nightforces are indeed quite big, but the Compact NXS is not.
