I had a 24" #2 Shilen Match tube fitted to a M-700 BDL donor. I added a Timney 510, picked up an HS stock here on the Fire Classifieds, glassed, free floated and torqued it. I painted it with Brownells brown AlumaHyde II. It looks more OD than brown to me, but I like OD, too.

This HS stock is very light (26 oz.), has a very high comb, looks like the stock on the HS PHL, their lightest rifle at less that 6 pounds. I've not seen this stock listed by HS or anyone else for a 700 SA BDL. I would appreciate info on that.

Because of the very high comb, I had to use very high Weaver rings which I had in the shop. I mounted a VX-3 3.5-10x40 CDS.

I shot it for the first time today, muddy range tromped up by the cows, wind at 20 MPH, right to left, tailgate bench and still shot some pretty decent groups. 4WD saved a long walk to the house... blush

My best three shot group was with 123 gr. Scenars and Varget. The gun didn't seem to like 125 gr. Partitions as well as these Scenars, they grouped over an inch. It did slightly better with 120 gr. NBT's. It also did well with H100V and 123's, around half inch, just not quite as tight as this Varget group. My chrono was acting up, so I didn't get speeds. This Varget load should be somewhere in the 2,800 fps range.

As shown, 7 pounds, 11 oz. I think this stock will be good from a sitting position with Harris bipod. Should be a good speed goat rifle. I'll get the CDS set up for the best load. Timney is at 2.5 pounds.

Nice...

I'd like to see how the comb and ring height matched up.

The comb is so high, I need those high rings for comfortable cheek weld and a good view of the scope. It's got a reverse slope, heel is higher than the comb.

I don't like the looks of very high rings, but that's the way it needs to be.

Edited to add, it balances at the recoil lug, front of the receiver. It handles great.

That's a good looking sombeach DF, a nice light carrying rifle, hope the little skinners are good killers, will be looking for hunt reports later this year.

Well, I don't know about those skinners, never killed anything with one.

Pat sure has a stack of Scenar killed, dead critter photos... cool

Some of them, pretty nice... grin

Now, if I could only shoot like that... blush

Are the skinners making Pat look good, or is Pat making the skinners look good...??

Chicken and the egg... wink

Well, I take that back. I did kill a WT with a 90 gr. skinner out of my .240 at warp speed. WT chest turned to soup, nasty clean up. Never did that again...

Maybe a bigger skinner moving not quite so fast will behave better.

It seems to be a well thought out, well engineered round. I like the way it fits the SA box mag with about any bullet. It has sharp shoulders not too unlike Ackley rounds. Good brass is available as well as great factory ammo.

And, it seems to be gaining ground in popularity.

Dave Emary and the crew at Hornady keep coming up with winners.

It is for sure.

For a while, one seller on GunBroker was listing RAR Predators in 6.5CR one after another. They were 24 hour auctions at a reasonable starting bid, and it was rare to see one end without a buyer. I'll bet he sold more than one a day for a month.

I was trying to hold out for the Kimber Montana, but for my intended use I decided I really wanted a little heavier rifle.

So I just took delivery on a Bergara B-14 Hunter. I haven't scoped or fired it yet, but from a design and construction standpoint it seems like a really nice rifle.

I've seen photos of the Bergara and read good reviews.

I'd be interested, as I'm sure others would, to hear your report on that rifle.

Photos would be nice... grin

My 6.5 Creed was really accurate with 123 Scenar and 120 Barnes loaded with Varget. My recipe is in the book out in the shop but I believe it was around 40 grains. That rifle didn't like heavier bullets. I let a girl at church talk me into letting her have the rifle to deer hunt with.

I remember that.

Was the 123 Scenar or the 120 Barnes more accurate?

A range report may be a ways down the road. My access is pretty limited this time of year.

I will shoot some pics tomorrow and post them.

I think it's a pretty nice package, assuming it shoots.

That is one funky stock.

I'm thinking hard about doing a lightweight Creedmoor to go along with the 77, but now that Kimber is going to chamber for it I might go that route.

I think a little rig with a 20" tube could do well.

Nice rig! I have a lot of confidence in the 120BT.

Curious what materials where used to manufacture the stock and if it would be possible to apply a little heat to drop the comb angle?

I'd be very surprised if that bounced off an antelope, DF.

Thanks for the report. I've pondered a Creedmore myself.
