Just got the AR10T and am curious about the .338 Federal version. Armalite says they aren't building them now, so it's used or aftermarket, is that right? Anybody try one?

338 Federal is a great round mine is DPMS LR338 Federal, with Larue quick release mounts with a 4-30 by 50mm Bushnell 6500 Elite with mil dots. Shoots great and puts a big hole in deer.

Yeah, that sounds like a good setup. I have a 338 Federal in a lever action, but am going to make a WAG that it will be hard to find for this Armalite.

Sweet dude! You might want to move that scope forward a couple inches before you shoot it.

Dang, I just realized my brain and my fingers didn't translate the description right. This is a 308, not .338 Federal. I was inquiring about the .338 Federal because I was thinking about the second assembly. I called Armalite and they said they're not making them anymore. I'd like to find one on the market to try. Sorry for my poor description! My brain was on .338. I'm curious how hard the .338 is going to be to find.

Hard - from my limited experience looking for one in DPMS pattern. The factory upper assemblies aren't common, and the barrels for a build are less so.
Several custom barrel makers list one, but I found most were sold out, and no rush to make more - it's a limited demand so far-ymmv.
Fast, cheap, or right - you can pick two...

Yeah, that sounds like a good setup. I have a 338 Federal in a lever action, but am going to make a WAG that it will be hard to find for this Armalite. Roy; X-Caliber can probably build you a barrel... or my guy, but one stripped Armalite upper probably costs more than the 2 stripped lowers and 4 stripped uppers I just bought (PSA blems)... i.e. not really blemed though. That is the ouch factor. Plus the Armalite barrel extension (if they would even sell you one). I am doing 4 DPMS pattern uppers here shortly... .308, .338F, .358W and either .366 x 51 or .375 x 51 (not sure which). PSA (Palmetto State Armory) makes good stuff. You can spend more, but their stuff is spec all day long. However, the really wild round from an AR-15 (not AR-10) is .375 Socom. Crazy killing power there. If you need pics I can send. Best chatter on .375 Socom is www.458socomforums.com ----------------

Fired this for the first time today. Oh my, this girl shoots. I have oblong holes at 80 yards with a 4x scope and a fat reticle. I may have to get serious and scope this for precision work. You enablers keep it up, I'll be upside down in AR's in no time !

A well built AR is 1/2 MOA with developed ammo and a reliable shooter.
That 20 round magazine is just for show... you won't need the extra 19 rounds unless you have an apple orchard and very serious nuisance problems.

Nice... If you build with blems from PSA (blems are not really blems BTW)... or Aero, and catch sales on BCGs etc. I can usually do an AR 15 for < $500 and an AR 10 for < $750... just uppers for around $275 to $325. i.e. shared BCGs and CHs. Optics of course, typically run more depending on your flavor requirements. I run Kahles and Minox ZA HD5s on most of mine. It is funny how many folks think an AR is hard to build... personally I have a harder time getting staples in a stapler some days.

Shot another 25 rounds today. I really like this setup. I'm not done with a load though. I was given 800 rounds of ammo and I'm having to pull it apart, resize, trim, reload. While I'm at it, I'm going to try TAC and 8208.

Works great with AE factory 185gr ammo less than 1 inch 3 shot group at 100 yards.

Roy, i went from 1969 to 2015 without touching a AR15 . made the mistake of buying a 458 socom for an investment. now i have 3 AR's and am building 2 more.the 375 socom and a 6mm.
