I bought 4 boxes of 180 grain 30-06 Core Lokt at Wal Mart for $17.94 a box, the cheapest I've seen. I know a lot of hunters hate Core Lokt (and Wal Mart for that matter) but I have had good luck with them.

Don't hate them at all; killed my biggest buck with that exact load. The bullet that hit that deer did not exit, which I thought was passing strange for a bullet advertised for years as suitable for elk and moose. Because of their simple cup&core construction, I consider them as good deer bullets. If they were priced right, I might consider loading them, but other, better bullets from Nosler, Hornady, and Sierra are available at the same price or even lower. Also, I just discovered that a lot of the core lokts are limited production items, and not available reliably. I suspect they want to sell ammuntion, not bullets.

I think the four boxes of that load I bought in 1998 were $9.95, btw.

I like the 140 CL's for my .280 but Wal Mart would never carry that.

But, but, the Walmart add says:

Provides deep penetration

I've shot a pile of game with Corelokts in both 150 and 180, caribou moose sheep. All pass thru. I dont know how you guys do it!

Last recovered bullet of maybe a dozen in over 100 + game animals was last year.. Hornady .30-06 150 gr SST SuperPerformance into the head of a bull moose at 30 yards.

Last one before that was 10-12 years ago, and that was '06 180 Corelokts jacket lodged in the offside knee of a bull caribou after passing thru the brisket. Part of the lead portion slashed open the heart. Range was 356 long paces.

Killed my first bull elk with a 180gr in 30.06 out of a Ruger M77R back in 1979 with one.

Did the job then, and I'm sure that they would work today.

It's all about shot placement. You do your job, and they'll do theirs.

I've shot several truckloads full of deer with 30 cal. 180 gr. Core Lokt RN's out of my 300 Savage. No complaints on performance here.

I shoot the 180 in my 30 06. Was the most accurate bullet of about 6 that I tried to find a load for including 155 scenars.I think my rifle likes flat based bullets. Also shoot the 140s in my 7mm with a night scope. Likewise, very accurate. These bullets do what they say,go in, mushroom, and penetrate. Have shot numerous deer, bear, and wolves with them. Everything has been very dead in short order.

I used the 150's and 175's in a 7 mag for 20yrs or better, then switched to the 140's in a .280. I believe the 140's in a .280 was a better mousetrap for eastern whitetails. That said I have about 150 of them I can't seem to bring myself to load because I have more modern fancy plastic tipped boolits to load.

I have 4 different 06 (I have more 06's but 4 like core lokt)rifles that shoot the core lokt 180gr PSP better than any other factory ammo out there(that I've tried, but I've tried plenty).

2 of said rifles shoot the factory 180gr PSP better than any hand load I've ever fed them.

I have never had a core lokt fail, I've had many core lokt perform as advertised, even 1 .30-30 150gr core lokt enter a large whitetail at the rear ham and exit through the neck on a follow up shot after a clean miss.

Great ammo, great bullet, great price.

Spend little, kill all.

Enjoy the hunt while it lasts!

No issues with Core Lokt's. Have recovered several that looked like a picture book.
Of course, a lot of folks don't want to recover any.
If I shoot from stem to stern, or visa versa, and the animal dies right now, I don't consider that an issue.

I have way more issues with Walmart than I do Core-Lokt's.
It'd take more than a couple bucks to get me in there.

as a taxidermist in a prior life.... I've seen a LOT of cup and core total seperations, from light hits, like up against the neck, not penetrating the neck and so on, from core lokts. All of the ones I found though were obviously in dead deer.

That said I've killed a fair amount with core lokts.

Simple truth of the matter is that since Barnes came along, their bullets do ANYTHING I ask and do it better than other options, that evertyhing else is obsolete for me.

But cheap corelokts still go bang and still kill stuff on a regular basis.

+1 on that. It isn't the store but more the type of people I see shopping there. A Wal Mart seems to suck the trash out of the community no matter how nice the surrounding neighborhood is. (Of course, they may be looking at me thinking the same thing)

I buy all my motor oil there, since it is considerably cheaper than anywhere else around me. I also check out the hunting and fishing isles but rarely buy anything.

I have never had a Core Lokt fail to kill an animal except the elk I shot over last October. The Core Lokt sure tore the heck out of the hillside behind the elk.
