Season is over so time to start planning for next year.
I've got a Ruger M77 MarkII in 280Rem that I've had longer than any other rifle, but I've only killed one coyote with it. Never even seen a deer with that rifle in my hands. Going to try to change that next season. My dad has been using it the last 2-3yrs but I think I'll let him use a different rifle next season.
Next one I intend to try out is another M77 MarkII 223Rem I bought recently. It's a walnut/blue 1989 model with a 20 inch Ultralight contour barrel. It handles like it's a part of me.
If I break both of those in, I really want to try to get a deer with one of my 243s. I hear how deadly they are on whitetails with 95 NBTs so I want to see for myself.
What's everybody else using next season?
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

Might give a Marlin 1895GS 45-70 a try, as well as a Rem 700 .223 when I head up to NY for Thanksgiving weekend. CZ550 .375 worked over by AHR will be in tow as a back up for both. TSX's in all.
All of that pending I don't buy something else between now and then. Been toying around with something mid-bore (257, 270, 7mm, 30) in a mountain rifle type configuration.

For home I have a couple of Savages I am rebarreling that will be new- one to 250 Savage and another to 358 Win. The 358 will probably be used for black bear but the 250 will probably spend a couple days in the deer woods. Another that will likely end up in the field is a Savage 1899 in 38/55. I need to work up a load first as I am not impressed with the Winchester factory load. If I have a second doe tag available I might lug another 99 in 25/35 into the woods.
The trip to Montana will probably see the Howa 1500 in 7mm/08 used. I bought it to replace one of the Savages I am rebarreling. I am looking at bringing either a Ruger #1 in 300 Weatherby or a pre-64 Win M-70 with as a back up. I haven't shot anything with either and that needs to change before I sell one.

A little of both.
Old standby gun- T3 30-06 but reworked into a new caliber- but an old standby cartridge. 280AI
And a new cartridge for me- 7mm-08
Beyond that, nothing new as of now. 1895SBL will no doubt also see the woods.

New toy...I bought a used Dakota Arms model 76 in 280 Remington a few weeks ago. Will probably take it on a cow elk hunt this fall.

Well my trusty Husqvarna .30-06 was finally shot out a couple years back so I sold it rather than rebarrel it. I then bought a 1967 Rem 700 bdl 30-06 in 98% condition and was happy. Last spring a collector offered me $200 more for the bdl than I paid for it and I gave in. This year I'm all about getting another 30-06 but I'm not sure what I want yet.

No new toys this year. We'll see what I draw then decide what to take along.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Tate -
? A NEW load for my Swede ? I'm trying 120 N BTs and haven't worked out the load yet. As soon as it dries out a little around here, loading & graphing is on schedule.
? Another NEW load for my 06. 150 Win Silvertips (old stock) and/or 150 Barnes TTSX.
My old standby is always ready and sometimes I have a hard time leaving it home. Tikka T 3 Lite SS 270, never a mistake.

I'll think about it when the time draws nigh. I'll probably handle that decision like I always do- close my eyes and pick one the night before.

While I still use the M70 I bought new in 1957 these days I favor a custom 30-06. It's really handsome with an octagon barrel and an excellent stock. For rough weather I have the SS Kimber Montanas. My 99 .358 Win is always ready. Here is my DWM Mauser with it's octagon barrel.

Got a PF .280 AI FW I've been piecing together for a couple years. Hoping to bloody her in South Dakota on mulies: I also have an 03-A3 in 6.5-06 I am working on right now that may go w/ me to Gophergunner's place in Pennsylvania. As back-up I'll have my trusty Mauser 96 American in 30-06 on both hunts. That thing is like an extension of myself; when I point and squeeze the trigger stuff dies.

For big game, the only change i plan to make is to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor. Probably a Kimber. I probably won't have time to get iron sights on it for this years seasons but I should use it next year.

Oh I been doing all my hunting with a 7mm RM in an Blaser R-93! At least for the last decade, I think I will hunt with my Sako Hunter in 6.5 x 55 next year. We shall see.

I'll do like gnoahhh, give a peek in the safe the night before and probably change my mind 7 times by the time one makes it to the truck the next morning. One thing's certain, it'll look something like this

Jerry Old timers again. This 06 is new to me but it's been in the family a while. I have shot it a few times but haven't hunted it. I plan to hunt this gun for my first time w/the new load. Jerry

Pretty sure it will be a wood stocked pre-64 Model 70 of some flavor. Mine are all set up the same, and one cartridge seems to kill as well as another. Just depends what barrel length I feel like packing...
