.... purchase is usually the cheapest part of horse ownership, so make sure you have a critter that you can get along with and will do what you need it to do.
Found one here in AZ. Drove down yesterday to take a look at her. Rode her all over the place, crawled all over her and made her do stuff that most animals don't want to do. Never balked, never gave me any grief. Loads good, shoes easy and 14.3 hands. 8 years old Amish trained in Missouri. I think she will work out good for me. I can even haul her home myself and don't have to fret over that part of it!

I went and picked up the mule this morning. Only thing I wish is that the two horses in the pasture would ease up on her! In spite of them harrassing her, she still was upset when they went riding without her. My take a week to settle into her new digs. She has grass now and before she only had dirt!
Maybe I'll get a photo or two tomorrow. I need to find a mule saddle. The skirts on my cow punching saddle are too big and the bars have too much rocker. Going to Prescott tomorrow to the Southwest leatherworkers convention to meet some saddle makers...

Congrats dennis! I took saddlesore's advice 2 or 3 yrs.ago and have looked locally here at a few, just cant find the right one for me, alot of them have not been taken care of by a mule person but by horse people.
Im being very cautious being that this will be my first mule.

It's best if mule are not run with horses. That makes great pack mule to follow a horse, but a mule will buddy sour to a horse every quickly. The best thing to do is keep this mule by itself for a few months anyway. You want it to bond with you,not the horses in the pasture.
I know you have been involved with mules for quite awhile, but pick up a copy of Western Mule Magazine, January 2016 issue, and read Ben Tennison's article on " Bringing Home the New Mule
On the saddle, not every mule barred saddle will fit every mule just as not every horse barred saddle will fit every horse.I'd be looking up Jack McClosky or Lee Worsham in the AZ local for a fitted mule saddle

If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles
I had it locked in a pen solo. My dad's wife let her out when they rode off. I have her in the pasture next door now and told her not to let them mingle for a couple of weeks. She was fine this morning. I had to lay down the law!
She loves me already!
