Stevil, Ringman if as you say the RMEF is owned by an Anti Hunting Org ??
Then why would it support the Bipartisan Sportsman Act of 2014 which protects the use of traditional ammunition, allows more flexibility for federal funds to be used to build and maintain ranges on public lands and ensures access to federal lands for hunting, shooting and other outdoor activities ?

It's sad when organizations that signed off on plan thresholds sue when those targeted numbers are attained. Those documents should be treated more like contracts than guidelines. I agree! Unfortunately, it was (mostly) environmental groups who didn't sign on that sued in the case of the GY wolves. Nobody thought wolves would do as well, and populations would grow as quickly, as they did. Consequently the NPS and USFW didn't anticipate these kind of lawsuits when wolves did reach population objectives. Hunters are likely the only economically viable option for managing our wolves, and that might actually be an over statement. Yes, we ran the wolves out once, but it took year round efforts, aerial programs, and poisons to accomplish that.
Keep in mind, there's 20x-30x more people in the west now then when wolves were eradicated. Access to the backcountry is exponentially easier too. Sport hunters will learn how to hunt wolves. There are a few guys on here who have demonstrated they can hunt predators with a lot of success. One thing the wolf states that have wolf hunting can do is allow more than one license per person--allowing the guys who are focused on predator/wolf hunting--and who are good at it--to kill more wolves. We who hunt elk in NE Oregon knew they were around a decade plus ago; the word got around. The elk hunting has gotten worse in the two units I hunt. There are several other variables at work though. Winter coming on later being a big one.
I'm inclined to give them a chance, but of course, they will need to be hunted as necessary to maintain a balance... I think even a lot of people who voted to ban cougar hunting with hounds 15 years ago have come around to realizing that.
Now let's get some grizzlies back in the woods.... that'll get their attention.... all the way down into California....
