I told KYHillChick. I called my mom. Angus will be home from school soon. I'll tell him. I've been fielding calls all afternoon from co-workers. With a break in the action, I thought I'd let all my crazy uncles know.
I got let go today from my job.
It was nice, amicable, friendly. The VP and the HR Director were surprised I was taking it so well. The truth is, I've spent my whole adult life watching companies do this. It is nothing new. I just packed a few things and left.
This was a rapid reduction in force. It had nothing to do with performance or bad behavior. I'm just the guy that had been there the shortest time. I'm getting severance and a guarantee of good recommendations.
Anyhow, if anyone knows of a company in the Greater Cincinnati Area that needs a bit-jockey with 30-some years experience, tell them about the shaman. My most current specialties are Microsoft networks and their administration, VMWare and VEEAM. I was until Noon their Senior Systems Administrator.
The good news in all this is that it really frees up my schedule going into turkey season.

shaman Sorry about the reduction in force ,but with the attitude you have displayed I have no doubt there is some thing better down the road. For the next few weeks I want to see many pictures of turkeys headed for the roaster pan. That is something on my bucket list-turkeys. Good luck and keep us posted. Cheers NC

good luck, i went through the same thing just about 18 months ago. the real kick to the gut is i had very very nice benefits. i was able to regain employment immediately but i'm no where near the benefits i had. if i didn't have a kid still in high school i would just hang up my sign but i need about 9 more years.
Help keep our sport going. take a kid outdoors!

Best wishes, Shaman.
There are plenty of "consulting" firms out there. Get with a couple of those when you are ready to go back to work. If you post a resume on CareerBuilder.com, they will be calling you in a couple hours.

We had a foreman over a crew of 10. He was instructed to lay off his entire crew. When he came back from lunch, he too was walked to the gate.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

I had 3 jobs disappear before I was able to retire. The last one was the best as I just had to make do for a little under a year until social Security & my pension kicked in. It gave me a bunch of free time during hunting season and lots of time to practice retirement so I'd be good at it.

Getting canned from a job and getting severance pay is one of the great joys in life.
Last place I worked they had 9 layoffs in 7 years but I was never lucky enough to be one of 'em.
I finally had to just up and fuggin' quit.

Come to think of it,...I don't believe I've ever had a job that I wouldn't trade for a layoff with severance pay,....but I never got one.
My whole life I've been cursed with being good at doing chitty jobs.

Kinda a kick in the head ain't it? I worked in IT for awhile and it's the only job I truly hated! Way to many DFU's.
IT is a field with lots of opportunities, Good luck on your future endeavors.

Bummer man. Hopefully something comes along soon
I probably hit more elk with a pickup than you have with a rifle. I have yet to see anyone claim Leupold has never had to fix an optic. I know I have sent a few back. 2 MK 6s, a VX-6, and 3 VX-111s.
