Hi Folks

We are now taking orders on a first-come, first-served basis, HERE: VX-7 Advance Orders

I appreciate all the inquiries, and will answer all PMed questions as I get more info.

Rick

I hear they will be an offering an optional repair package for these new scopes that will give you free express shipping, pre-name tags info and a loaner shipped anywhere in the world until your damaged scope has returned to you. If you drop that first digit in the price you can count me in

I read that it'll be delivered by Eva Longoria...

I had myself all talked out of them till I saw this! If you buy
two does Salma Hayek deliver the second one?

Seriously, I hope they are true contenders. U.S. manufacturers are over-due some successes. At least they are still made in the USA!

For all you guys who cannot resist I may offer up to 50 cents on the dollar for all your worthless old VXIIs and IIIs.

Predictably, everyone is speculating about the new scopes' optical qualities. I'm more interested in whether it offers anything new and improved in the durability department. Maybe I'm just odd, but to me it's a gun sight first and an optical instrument second.

The prices listed are obviously MSRP - retail. What will the street price be ... maybe 60% to 70% of that? After all, when was the last time you paid full retail for a Leupold scope?

Unfortunately, what you see is the pricing. I believe Leupy has a uniform pricing policy. I believe that was the crux of the issue that Rick had when he stopped selling Leupy's for a short while. I think that they will have a hard time convincing folks that want the big three for what ever reason that it is a worthy opponent. They will face more competition when Leica decides to release their new scopes as well.

The Leupold's are already selling folks.

Like I said, there's a market there, and Leupold knows it.

Taking orders here:

Rick: Any chance of posting the specs, particularly for the low power variable? The length and weight are of interest. jorge

Might be frightening to know how many high-end scopes riding aboard loaded rifles are used more for sightseeing devices, than sighting devices......a practice I can't like.

I am happy with the VX 1 or a good used VX III, the VX II dosn't make sense - $100 for click adjustments. But if it makes someone happy they should buy one... or several. Lou

Lou,

I think the newer VX-II's got a change in glass coatings to make them equal to the older Vari X-III's, in addition to the click adjustments. So, you're getting more than just clicks for the "C" note.

Don't you all know? The "golden ring" really is now a gold ring

I don't see how they can make $700 worth of improvements over a VX III or LPS (not that the LPS's or VX III's can't be improved). I think they simply found out that people will pay $1,500 for a scope, regardless of quality....to a point and are cashing in on it. Come on, what can they put on a lense or in a scope to up the price that much on existing technology? Lab equipment might be able to tell a difference, but the human eye really can't. Each persons eyes have to many variables and degrees of light transmission to say one glass is better than another once a certain point is reached. That is why so many arguments crop up here from time to time on the Zeise vs. Swarovski vs. Leupold quality. Everyone sees differently and perhaps a certain glass allows THEIR eyes to see better through that scope, vs. one that might be a whole lot more money. That is reality.

90% of users out there couldn't tell the difference between a VX III and and $2,000 scope of any brand. A very large portion of the 90% have such varying degrees of eyesight and genetic color contrast disabilities (we all do to an extent) that the better glass couldn't be detected. The other 10% of the population that buys expensive scopes do so simply to brag, or because they can afford them or they simply have to have name brand stuff.

They simply see the label on the scope and migrate to the "name" on the scope. Leupold still has a lot of crapy components in their scopes. Crummy cam followers to name one. The cheesy turret knobs and click adjustments are very wimpy aluminum. Why the heck are they still using aluminum brass and plastic in the turret areas that get heavy use????? This has bothered me for years. I get tired of sending high end scopes back to Leupold to have the same things fixed over and over, but I do so because I know they will get fixed for not cost to me. Zeis and Swarovski might take months to take care of these things and will "usually" charge for them. Anywho, I sure hope they put some steel and bronze (at the very least) in these new scopes. I will GLADLY put up with an extra ounce.....hell 5 ounces in order to have more robust inner workings, especially on long range scopes where the turrets are constantly getting used.

Oh, and Blaine, Leica has been making scopes for a LONG time dude Where you been Flinch

Pretty sure it all depends on what bracket your in at tax time. What $500 is to some is $1500 to others. Cant see spending $1700 on anything I am only going to look through for a couple seconds on any given hunt. Some folks got more money than others thats for sure!

Hey Rick,

You should start selling insurance policies for the VX7s. A fella slips on the shale or a pack horse does a buckaroo...................

Maybe they will now come out with an FX7 and possible add a rainguard. I will probably get one of these scopes though.
