I'd still buy one of these in a heartbeat. Only 250 BB that I have seen in Canada was at my local gun shop. Older gentleman was just picking it up from being drilled and tapped for a scope Said it was his Grandpa's and he wanted to hunt it again and his eyes weren't good enough for the irons anymore and he wanted to get it back in the woods. Rifle was really high original finish. BLAIR SEND YOUR MONEY DOWN,, I'll Send one up.

Won't you have a cartridge length problem with the .358 in a 600K action?
Dang if I wouldn't. Didn't remember that as I was thinking on it.
What length barrel do you plan?
18-20"
First Brl Bands had dovetailed sight. Could mount the one screw version used on the Late 99A.
Yep, either would be ok.

You could take the barrel back to 20-inches and cut a dovetail for the front sight. Following that I'd go with a straight stock, but maybe opt out for the shotgun butt instead of the carbine stock as the curved buttplate could cause issues under the recoil of a .358. I've never seen a carbine buttplate for sale anywhere and I've got lots of shotgun styles so that settles that. I prefer a pistol grip vs. a straight stock for shooting, but haven't settled on anything.

Gun Parts has/had the 99-H carbine version. Has some type of black finish. I bought one to see what it was that they were selling. Appears to be the same plate. Probably Savage leftovers. It's for sale if you need one.

I have a couple of the latter carbine buttplates. All Savage did was to saw the top tang off from the earlier carbine buttplates. And they didn't do a good job cleaning up the saw line either, but hey it was the Great Depression and Making money was tough. My brother restored a carbine about 15-years ago. He took one of the sawed off buttplates and welded on a tang made he made from flat stock. Actually it was our father who did the welding. We cleaned it up and did a oil quinced blue job. It came out looking pretty good. At least good enough to make it hard to distinguish from an original.
