I don't think .50's are all that accurate? Even if you handload the premium bullets for them?
They can be pretty accurate with the right ammo, most factory ball is mediocre at best. I'll be loading some Hornady match bullets this summer I hope will be good enough at a mile

One of my fellow Deputies in Texas started collecting full-auto weapons the year before Reagan made it illegal to manufacture new full-auto weapons and let the public buy them. The general public could buy and sell what was already out there (just like now), but no new ones would be made available. As LEOs, we could possess one if the Sheriff OK'ed it. He, of course, wouldn't. But, I did get to rip off a 200 round belt from my buddies M-60. It tore up an old car we had pulled to the range to use in scenarios or just to shoot at. I have to admit, it was fun, but full auto weapons have no place in law enforcement. They belong in the hands of our armed forces.

M1919 and M60. The M60 with its quick change barrel was a joy compared to the M1919. I always wanted to shoot a M2 50 cal but never got the opportunity.

There was a Steyr single Shot .50 for sale locally in the area, for about $3k, though I never could justify buying it.
I don't think .50's are all that accurate? Even if you handload the premium bullets for them? Reloaded AP bullets at an accumulated appx 1800 yards, IE had to range it back in sections, best 3 shots into less than a foot....

FWIW not impressed with it shooting deer though. They run like hell because, IMHO, it sounds like a stick of dynamite went off...

Most of mine were when I was in the Navy:
M2 50BMG M60 Full auto M14 M79 40mm grenade launcher
These days, my M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, AR-15 and AK are the "fun guns", along with the .50cal caplock muzzleloader my father built for me. I did get a chance to go full auto with a M1 "Tommy Gun" a few years ago - a 30rd mag goes in about a second!

At a machine gun shoot a few years ago I shot a 20mm Lathi antitank gun at an old Suburban. Knocked the entire front differential out of it.

My grandfathers DM LeFever 12 gauge 1902 manufacture if I recall correctly. The shotgun is getting refurbished so it can be passed on to my offspring.
1910 K98a Erfurt 8x57. I was able through the glories of the internet and the assistance of a very kind gentleman in Germany track the history of the rifle via the markings on the rifle. Austrian artillery unit, which saw action against Canadians in several battles. Which explains why it ended up being found in the floor joists of a house 4 or 5 years ago. I have passed this onto one of sons who is trying to collect WW1 and WW2 rifles.
WW1 vintage Luger P-08.Great shape and fun to shoot. A buddies grandfather brought it home from Europe at the end of WW1.
Great and interesting thread!

This has become my favorite rifle. Will be taking it to the farm next weekend. I've only shot 3 rounds through it, because I tore the retina in my right eye a couple weeks before I got it. Shot it off the 50 yard bench. Next week we will get it back to 100 yards and might try a couple at 200 for kicks, Joe.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

This is what I'd go with as well only in 30/06. Only it was my Grandfather's. He won it in a big buck contest with a 38" Wide Mule Deer. He gave it to me 30 years ago before he died. It's one of the first ones with a flag safety and low 17,XXX sn. Hope to pass it on to my son or grandson some day. Hope they can appreciate it. A collector gun......I like to collect these with it!

Let me tell you why this one is so cool to me. In the time period when this pistol was customized by Pachmayr's Gun Works, I was one of the gunsmiths doing these conversions, but this one was made several months before I got there. Since that time I have been looking for one and finally found one for sale. This pistol came with test targets and a lot of documents provided at the time of the conversion, along with the original Colt box. This pistol's test target shows 5 shots fired at 25 yards that went into .480 inches. That was done in 1973. These Signature Models will shoot. This particular pistol is one of the earlier models without a lot of the bells and whistles that are seen on many of the custom jobs from that time frame. It doesn't even have an enlarged ejection port. During my time at Pachmayr's I only remember one that didn't have an enlarged ejection port. While this pistol has some wear from use, it remains tight and with a crisp trigger pull. I searched for an example of the Pachmayr Signature conversion for a long time and have finally found an excellent example. Cool factor is off the scale to me.

My great grandfather, Frederick Hudson Prescott Lowe, bought this 1894 Winchester saddle ring carbine in .25-35WCF in 1906. He took it with him to Mexico from 1906-10. During those years he ran a Chicle plantation for a US company. My grandfather was born in 1900. He was in Mexico 1906-09. When the Mexican War was inevitable, FHP sent the family back to the states then followed a year later as the war broke out. FHP's friends called him "Forty Horse Power" for his initials. Guess back then that was high power.
