I grew up on a farm and we had some tame ducks (eastern callers) on the pond, about 300 yds behind the house. Now the barn, where we kept feed, was by the house.

Every day at feeding time, these ducks would walk, single file up the cow path, from the pond to the barn. Quack, chatter, get in your way, just generally fuss, until you fed them. Once they had cleaned up all the feed, they would FLY back down to the pond and stay there until feeding time the next day.

Wonder what they were thinking to make them walk up but fly back? Habit from when they were Ducklings?

Thank you for taking the time to share! I get the biggest kick out of animal antics!
