Good evening. I am looking for favorite loads for the 280 Ackley Improved using Barnes TSX or TTSX bullets. Any information you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks Elk

Max charge of R22 from the Nosler #5 manual. This performed so well that I haven't gotten around to more load tweaking. Also want to try R25 and VV160 and 165 at some point.

57.5 grs of Ramshot Hunter/140TSX gets me around 3000fps... I stopped there cuz it only took me seven shots to get to 3k and an inch high zero...

My .280 Ackley likes 58 grains of IMR 4831 in Nosler brass and CCI LR Mag primers with the 140 gr. TSX. Just over 3k fps and a nice 5/8 inch group at 100yards.

Try N165 first, it may save you some time and trouble.

I LIKE 63 GRAINS OF RL 22 WITH 140 GRAIN ACCUBONDS. MY RIFLE IS BUILT OFF A REMINGTON 700 THAT WAS REAMED OUT. 3.450 IS C.O.L. USED FEDERAL 210M PRIMERS.

I tried Tim's load last summer and it was cash money. My velocity was not quite where I wanted it, but I have come to the conclusion that i have a "slow" barrel.

I like a load I got off here, 63.3 VV N165 with 140 accubonds std primer. I've also tried it with 140 Bergers. Both group better than 1/2 inch at 100yds. Out of my 24 inch Hart I got just under 3100fps. I havent killed anything with the Bergers, but the Accubonds have always made complete pass throughs on broadside deer and hogs. I'm gonna try a load with some magnum primers next.....

I have done well with 64g of RL22 and the 140 TTSX, getting 3150fps and great accuracy out of a 24" barrel.

Revisiting this older thread.
I'm just starting my 280ai adventure and will be using IMR 4350 or 4831 and what are you all using for reference for you minimum charge weights?

Anybody try RL17 in the 280 AI? I too just launched a project based on the 280AI. Ordered a #2 Pac Nor select match pipe for the job.

For reference, I used 53 grains of R17 in my 284 with the 140-gr TTSX at 2.95" OAL an hit 3150 fps out of a 23" tube. This would shoot .5 MOA at 400 yds but made me a little uneasy so cut to 52.5 and 3050 fps.

So I guess I'll start with the minimum from the Nosler book and work up from there till I get the same head expansion as a fired factory round.

The max charge of IMR 4350 works well in my Kimber 280AI. Groups run from 1" to 1.5" at 100. I've used both CCI 200 and Winchester large rifle primers and didn't notice any difference between the two.
