If he is that good of a shot with the 22-250, why mess with success? Put some good bullets in it and go slay whitetails!
I've killed a few with both the 30-06 and the 22-250 or it's equivalent, the 220 Swift, all inside 200yds. They didn't die any faster with the 30-06.
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

If the twist is right for a good game bullet I'd use the 22-250 myself, and I'm not exactly a newbie.

I love my 250 Savage. My 700 Classic is super accurate with 100 grain Ballistic Tips on top of H4895 for just a bit under 3000. Recoils like a pop gun.

Try 40-41 grains 4895/165 Sierra GK. Very mild (some would call wimpy) but crazy accurate in my last three 06's- and a sound killer on our eastern whitetails. Why beat yourself up with each trigger pull? Shoot loads like this and save the hot rod potential of full-snot '06 loads for situations that demand it.
The only thing that beats this load for me in an '06 are cast loads, but that's fodder for a different campfire, maybe. What velocity are you getting with these loads?

36 grains 4198 under a 125 CoreLokt is deadly on whitetails. 52 grains Varget under a 130 TTSX is deadly on everything.
The 270 has the same recoil as a 30-06 with equal bullet weights.

One of the biggest selling points of the 270 over the 30-06 is the reduced recoil. Will a 30-06 loaded with 130g or 140g bullets have approximately equal felt-recoil as the 270 with same bullet weights?
I'm asking because my son is shying away from the 30-06 recoil, even with 150g bullets. I'm figuring that shifting to the 270 will be the answer, but I've never experimented with lighter bullets in the 30-06. That would be an easier switch.
Thanks, Jeff How stout are the 150 loads? And what about a recoil pad?
You didn't use logic or reason to get into this opinion, I cannot use logic or reason to get you out of it.

I started my daughter on a LH Rem 700 FS 30-06 when she was 14 and recoil shy. I loaded 150 gr. Barnes TSX bullets with IMR 4350 to about 2500 fps. She shot it and was not afraid of it so she shot very well. She has shot 4 animals with 4 shots and none has gone over 50-60 yards. They include a zebra, black wildebeest, and a nyala. The Barnes bullets give very good penetration even at the lower velocities and have performed perfectly.
