Most folks don't know about the fires from the cannons that burn't across the battlefields
Horror (thankfully) played down,...and certainly nothing that I would want to dwell on, or in.
You're a young infantryman with a foot clipped off by canister or round ball, skipping through a field of overripe grain.
You lay there with you're belt pulled tight around your new stump, and are giving quiet, reverential thanks that your wound is no worse,....your comrades writhing, screaming, gutted alive all around.
Things could be worse,....
