A big thank you to 1899guy (Bob) and Rick99 for putting this together. The venue was perfect, food was outstanding and plenty of it. And of course it was fun meeting everyone and sharing this passion.

And a shout out to Marg and my wife for helping with the food and clean up.

Gary and I made it home safe and sound. Saw some horse trading going on. I brought home an 1899 B in 303, that didn't go up with me. Thanks to Roger, I'm a happy camper! Great food, greater people, can't wait till next year, Joe.

There was one table that was outstanding...only for the fact that there was NOTHING factory original on it (my tinkerbell table below!).

I had a GREAT first-timer experience! I was in awe, of the classic originals represented there..both rifles and collectors!! Great to put some faces with your handles!

Thanks to everyone there who shared their knowledge and collections so generously! Thanks to Bob and Rick for putting together a super weekend!!

What a wonderful weekend!!! Perfect venue and the most gracious host! Thanks again, Bob. The only complaint was they made me eat too much! (My beer consumption was my own fault though!)

Finally after all these years I got to meet the "movers and shakers" of this forum- a rare treat indeed. And guess what, everybody is even nicer than the impression you get on the forum- and that's saying something.

I overnighted a couple hours shy of Annapolis and just got in. Sat down to upload the pics I took and found the batteries to be dead in my camera. I'll leave it on charge while I go make an appearance at work and upload them this evening.

I especially liked the intense education on .22's I got from Gene, and the chance to glimpse the rarified world of high end engraved 99's from John.

What a great time!!A big thank you to 1899guy (Bob) and Rick99 for putting this fest together. Fine dining along with fine people made for a real treat for Margie and I. Could not have wanted for a better get together. Learned a lot, saw some really really nice Savages. A "Thank You" to all who were there. Hope to make the next one!

Best to all-
Steve

Bob and Rick I thought did a dammm fine job of orchestrating the fest. Was an educational experience. All down to earth folks with more Savage knowledge than I could absorb. Viddles (as Gary stated) were top notch. I personally gained a few lbs.

If I can figure out how to retrieve photos off my phone I'll post a couple myself. Got a ton in my phone, but when I cable it up to computer, I says none to import. ARGH!!

Yep, I put on 4 pounds. Doctor told me to loose 20 or 30, oh well.

oldotter, I've got to say I'm sorry. It wasn't until you told the story of the kids saying, "your not Otter, your Old Otter", that I realized I had miss read your handle. I thought it was Old Dotter, like dodder, like feeble and, well you know what I mean. Your none of the above. It was great to sip a couple cold ones with you and Gary.

I think I learned something from every one I spoke to. I was glad to see Matt there. He's one of the fellows that I met at the big Amish auction I went to a couple months ago.

Bob and Rick, thanks again, great job, Joe.

Had a great time at the fest. They could have called it
the Savage Feast. We ate like kings. Bunch of great guys
(and girls). Lots and lots of knowledge there. I sure
learned a lot about Savages this weekend. The displays
everyone had were very impressive. It was a pleasure
meeting all you guys.
Did some wheeling and dealing with ROMAC (Roger) on a
few rifles. We both left happy...

Special thanks to Bob and Rick for all the work they
did and thanks to Rory and Joe and others for all the
pics...

Hope to see you all next year....

Hey Joe, I really wanted that 25-35 B. You know the old saying, you snooze you loose. I walked around thinking about it too long. When I went back and he said it was gone, I think I just froze up and went catatonic for 30 seconds. I had to take home the 303 B instead. Roger is a good guy to deal with, Joe.

'Twas a shining moment in Wellsboro history. They will talk in the coffee shops and diners of that glorious moment when the Savage Collectors be-knighted their town. A bronze plaque is being prepared as we speak- to be put outside the firehall annex. The Canyon Hotel has already made shrines of the rooms we stayed in, to be kept in their current state in perpetuity- moldy bath towels on the floors, empty shampoo jars in waste baskets, fart-tainted bed linens, and all. The garbage collectors set our trash aside and are now selling empty beer bottles to Straub's collectors (who I understand may indeed hold their Fest in Wellsboro now).

The only thing missing, that would have put us on The Nightly News, was there wasn't a single cross word spoken to or by an attendee.

Got home around 4PM today. Rory still had about 3 hours more on the road.

I'm back to not being able to post or reply. mad Loaded Firefox and am now back in business! grin

Thanks to all who attended! Big thanks to 1899Guy (Bob) for jumping in with both feet to host the show. It's a lot of work! I hope the Sunday morning cleanup was not too bad, Bob. The building was ideal for our needs. The food was great!!!

We lucked out and had a couple of wives willing to do the dirty kitchen duties. Can't say enough good words about Lu (Steve99's wife) and helper Margie (Sbrown's wife).

Now to oil and put away, mow, check the garden... boy can you get behind in six days!

I arrived home around 2 this afternoon (Monday). Spent last night in a hobo camp in Terre Haute, IN (but that's a long story for the next Savagefest), I missed seeing some folks that were not able to make this one but enjoyed getting to know the guys I had not met before from PA, NY and a few other states..Wellsboro is in a beautiful area. I will go back someday to spend more time there without having to worry about precious Savage cargo in the car.

I had a great time. Moved some down the road but came home with 3 new ones, final score was a minus 1!

Funny thing about a room full of collectors, without exception, everybody wants to talk to you about the ones you want to unload the least!

I barely escaped with my 38-55 1899 and 25-35 short rifle. My 1915 was coveted by many and the Birds eye maple had slobber on it when I got home LOL!

It was good to meet a lot of great people in person and swap stories. I just wish I did not have to cut and run at the end of Saturday. That area really is nice this time of year.

Thanks again everyone!

Roger

...and finally, to get back on topic. Courtesy of GeneB, 1940 was the first year for the Stevens 22-410, the precursor of the Savage model 24.

Thanks for the pics of Pine Creek. Brings back many memories of the hundreds of hours I spent fly fishing that water.

Sorry Joe...Didn't know you were interested in the 25-35 too.
Roger had several I was interested in, so I knew I had to act
fast. I also got a really nice "G" in 250-3000 from him. But
you got a good one too. I had a lot of fun.

I was just joking. I did like that one, but it was my second choice. I wanted the Walther 22 bolt/semi auto, engraved, super cool. When I decided to stick to 1899's, I found out someone else took her to the dance. I had to ask number 3 to come home with me. I'm way more than happy. Like you said, I had a lot of fun too, and now I know some of the stuff Roger has, for now anyway, Joe.

Had a great time at my 1st Savagefest. Great Savage guns, etc & better yet, really nice people. I learned a lot & my Savage 99 Rifle book means a lot more now that I have seen many of the models & better understand their differences.
Our trip included dinner on the Tioga Central RR as well as walking around town, finding the Historical Society & the small exhibit on Nessmuk (George Washington Sears). Then off to Philly to help my son unload his moving truck. Wish we could have stayed longer at the Savagefest as well as exploring the area further.
Looking forward to the next Savagefest East. A big THANK YOU to all of you who made this event happen. -Jim

Boswellbuckhunter is no slacker when it comes to getting what he wants! The four model K's were almost lost in the glare of a beautiful collection!

Oldotter, there's no such thing as a "trivial collection", thanks for sharing the weekend!

...but just in case yours gets too offensive for you, you know some people... wink

Joe, you're making me hungry! Now I have to make a trip to the grocery store.

The only thing missing at the Savage fest this year was the smoked lake trout.

Bear brats too...

On the other hand, the Jeep didn't smell like smoked lake trout for 3 days after we drove back either. grin

If I had of been lucky I would have brought some Mako Shark for the grill. Last time I grilled some I took a vote, and 100% said it was better than grilled Yellow Fin Tuna, Joe.

My wife requested that I mention how much she enjoyed visiting with all the other ladies at our 1st SavageFest.
Since Wellsboro is in Tioga county, I wondered if the womens group should be appropriately recognized as: Savage Women At Tioga (SWAT)

Smoked fish and brats never left Wisconsin. Too many choices and too much going on. I was in charge of local gun show following weekend. Where I did pick up 243 PE from John Allen! Going to PA would probably delayed ($$)that acquisition? If I make Fest West those there will see it.
Envious of those who made East Fest.

What a maroon. First I forget that my Nikon uses AA batteries, not a re-chargeable battery. Then I can't find my USB cord. After searching high and low, then ordering a new one, I find it buried in a side pocket of the soft bag I dragged to the Fest...

Anyway, here are the Happy Snaps I made last weekend.

Good pics! Still trying to find time to go through and clean mine up. Left the good camera home, so all I have are phone pics... Stupid, stupid, stupid.

For those wondering about the shotguns in the pictures, they are 16 gauge Savage era Fox Sterlingworth's, which make nice pairs with the rifles, given the similarities the wood.

Several guns stood out but among my favorites were the 99 in .410 with long barrel and "multiple shot" feature (not single shot like all the others) and also the hinged 1903. Some really cool guns! At the top of my list was the minty 1895.

My two favorite top-guns were both CMJohn's; his Monarch-grade relief carved stock, and his 1895 SRC!

Those are rifles I never imagined getting to see in person!

I know this post is very old, but I don't remember if I posted my 99 Savage. Anyway, here is the rifle that my dad gave in the early 70's. Original case, hang tag and factory .410 barrel as well as the 300 savage barrel.
