I'm thinking about getting a Model 64, the local shop has several of the Corrections Office trade-ins for $299. Figure a stainless Model 10 should be just the thing to ride around in the UTV.

That is what they're bringing locally.

Class, I can't recall seeing one of those in that condition in a long time.
The thing I like about the used ones I've bought is the action is, IMO, usually about as good as they get. A few months ago I thought I'd see if I could improve on my used police Model 10 with a spring kit. I replaced the main spring and trigger return spring, tried several different weights. They worked ok but felt kind of mushy compared to the originals, which I ended up going back to.

Do it, I have a M64 3" heavy barrel round butt that is a slick little revolver. Very handy indeed. Mine has Buffalo Bore 158 gr. +P lead semi wadcutter hollow points in the cylinder and that's plenty of pop for around the farm place here. For $300 that's a good value firearm.

Every time I see one of these model 10 threads I just kick myself in the ass for not grabbing several of those RHKP 4" that came back to this country back in the early 90s. I was working at a gun shop at the time and could have picked them up for about $150 if I remember right.

Nobody wanted them back then. The Wonder Nines were what everyone wanted, .38 Special six shooters were old hat, relics of Barney Fife and Mayberry. Never mind that they were absolute jewels of workmanship and unless deliberately and seriously abused - rust or trying to turn them into .357 Magnums - they last about forever.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I bought two of the police turn ins back in the early 90s from Southern Ohio Guns. A holster worn Model 10 heavy barrel with Pachmyar grips for $145 and a pretty nice Model 15 with Target Hammer, Target Trigger and Target Grips for $158. Had them both at the range last week.

If you can live with one in less than pristine condition they can still be had for ~$250.

I picked up the 4" Model 64-5 today, round butt. It will ride in the UTV.
I can't wait to get the 6" in. You just don't see that many 6" Model 10's around.

We have a used 10-5 2" on the shelf -- no cherry. We had a 10-(?) last week in almost perfect condition. It didn't last long!
The older, used Smiths get more attention than anything else in the used cabinets.....
I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!

Really like the old model 10's, but perfer the HB. Early 70's a friend was a cop down south, and could get all the 38 special wad cutters we wanted to shoot. He's grab a big old box full and we'd drive around in the desert at night in the back of his pickup chasing rabbits around. What a great time. Expect a few times we ended up near some neighborhoods, I'm sure they didn't care for all the shooting out back. I think I need another model 10 or 64. Interesting what you don't realize until you think about it.
