Last week near Atikokan. First couple days were windy and raining but we caught fish.

Weather started to improve on day three and gave us a nice sunset meaning a sunny last day.

They were on fire the last day. Three of us caught well over 100, most between 15" and 18". This one was 19".

A few on spinner baits but most on wacky rigged worms and jigs with paddle tail swim grubs. l

This was my best at 20". Late afternoon found them schooling on minnows in the weed beds and for an hour and a half one of the three of us always had a fish on.

Those are beautiful fish! Was this a guided trip?

We stayed at Crystal Beach Resort and the owner, Jody, guided us for walleye on day two. The other three and a half days we were on our own for smallies, but Jody marked a map of the one lake for us. We fished three different lakes, and had no problem finding willing fish. Also caught a few pike and walleye while fishing for bass.

Depths were anywhere from 3 feet to 20 depending in the weather and time of day.

That's a heck of a smallie catch. Raises my estimation of Indiana by a good notch. That'd be a top day in my books. Ella

Ella, I am from Indiana but this was our annual trip to Atikokan, Ontario. Those pictures do not look like Indiana, no cornfields.

54,
I'm from Kentucky and can't resist pulling a Hoosier's leg. I never fished smallies in Canada but might have to check it out.

Nice fish, and I'm glad you had a good time.
I do wish I would see more PFD's! They don't ring a bell just before you hit a rock.

The rates sure seem reasonable at that lodge. I'm assuming you recommend them?

Wabigoon, we wear our PFD when running across the lakes but we aren't taking pictures then. Take them off when we switch to the trolling motor. I have fished Ont. Waters since I was 5 and am now 62 and know the dangers. My wife would kill me if I drowned up there.
