Yes, which means you'll need to use the adjusted Coriolis factor. It gets really tricky at halftime of the Superbowl.

adjusted Coriolis factor

Not an issue if one is shooting east/west.

It might be useful to remember edge cases test any hypothesis but often give non-typical results or they wouldn't be edge cases.

I used to know a guy who proudly/kidding on the square displayed the remains of the heaviest Hornady SX bullet as he called it. He took a Lyman commemorative rifle on a Ruger #1 with something like a 30" barrel in .45-70 hand loaded to .458X2 levels to kill an American bison north of the Park. The animal was recovered but that heavy bullet expanded way more than a buffalo hunter would want. Then too I wouldn't want to go after American Bison or any buffalo anyplace in the world with one of the small bore long range bullets despite their previously unheard of levels of sectional density.

Bullets today do punch above their weights by traditional Elmer Keith style thinking. Learning from old books and taking them too literally or too seriously can be confusing for a relative newcomer.

It depends on the linear coefficient of the bullet, based on relative humidity, temperature and altitude.

Yes.

Global warming is causes by shooting. The recent trend toward fast twist .223's is responsible for the recent acceleration in the rate of change of global warming.

Assuming, of course, east/west is corrected for the deviation from True North for one's location?

Geno

PS, would this hold true for folks hunting below the Equator, like in Namibia.

Yes, but it can be counteracted it we all jump up as your avatar does, exactly at the same time. The Urth will then weigh less and friction will be lessened in proportion to the diminished mass, allowing the Urth to regain it's momentum. Everyone knows (really, they do) that the faster an object spins, the cooler it gets.

If not, then how do fans work?

Geno

PS, could we accomplish the same thing if half of the fast twist .223's were rifled in the opposite direction? Would they cancel the heat buildup of the others?

David,

Not to get you started, but where does Avogadro's number fit in your dingle arm reciprocation equation?

Geno

Well I'm finally glad to see that something isn't being blamed on the .270.

I think the OP got sectional density confused with ballistic coefficient. While all bullets of the same weight in the same caliber have exactly the same sectional density, they do not have the same BC because BC takes into account the shape. the higher the BC, the lower the drag in air.

Of course, the shape changes as soon as the bullet hits an animal and the bullet expands.
