First off big thanks to MtnBoomer for all the tips and answering all my questions. I'm pretty confident I would have completely botched this without all his help.

I saw some of the stocks MtnBoomer had slimmed and figured I'd give it a try. Bought a spare factory stock and went to work. I used Krylon Fusion and Krylon Marbleizing spray. The webbing went on way to heavy on the first attempt so I sanded it down a little and shot another coat of OD over it and re did the webbing. It still came out a little heavier than I would have liked but I decided to call it good.

Overall I think it came out pretty nice. I had LRI flute the bolt, a local machine shop skelontize the factory bolt handle, and I replaced the stock shroud and bottom metal with Mountain Tactical stuff. Also 16Bore Low talleys with a 42mm Z3. Weighs in a 6lbs 14oz

How much weight did it save?

Slimming the stock took about 1.4oz, the fluting and bolt and bolt handle work took 1oz

You're welcome - time well spent.

Way to stick-with-it thru the redo. I hesitated telling you it looked gubbered the first time round but you knew it and just need a nudge! LOL

It looks great all put together! Am grinning ear to ear happy for you wink

Slick looking machine. You're gonna love that Z 3 Swaro on it.

Thought that it might be more.

Terrific looking package nonetheless.

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I kind of though it would be a little more too.

The first time I went to Montana to hunt elk in the mountains, I brought my Win M70 Black Shadow in 300 WM. I learned the hard way on why you shave off as much weight as possible when going in the high country by foot. Today I pack completely different in both gear and firearms.

Every little bit of weight that you can shed is well worth the time and money. You might not think that starting off at the truck but you will later on and 4000 feet higher.

Great job on this rifle.

Making an already NOT rigid stock even less rigid is something I would not waste my time doing.

Looks real nice though.....

It was done for free as a favor by a local machinist. I just gave him some pics of the kimber mountain ascent handle and asked him to do something similar

I thought about that while I was sanding it down...but it still shoots better than I can shoot. I'd love to put B&C or a mcmillian on it but that ain't in the budget right now!
