Jealousy is such an ugly thing. What is sadly missed is that nowhere else in the world or in no other time than now is it possible to become wealthy. The only thing needed is desire, fortitude and hard smart work. I can think of three acquaintances that fall into the 1% category, and none of them own private jets.

A friends wife who run's assisted living homes for the mentally ill. She was born on an island in the Caribbean, came to the US and became a care giver and then started training and getting accredited to run assisted living homes.

My son's friends father who started literally sweeping the floors of a shop the sells and maintains big rigs and worked his way up and is now the owner of the company.

And a couple who the husband is a neurologist and the wife is a neurosurgeon. They were in their mid 30's before they started making a dime due to the decade plus of schooling and specialized training they received.

None of these people stole what they got, or had it handed to them.

Now if you are unhappy with where you are at life, stop listening the idiot you seen in the mirror every day that gives you a host of excuses for falling short.

Estimates vary, but most feel that an annual income of $350,000 will get you into the bottom of the 1%.

A net worth of about $5.5 million will get you into the 1% of that category. Being in the 1% annual income wise lets you live well, but being in the 1% net worth wise lets you live secure.

This is key.

There are many who might break into the top 1% in earnings. But many of those fail to save and build their net worth.

My stepfather was a self-made man. Rarely made very much money as the owner of a roofing company, somewhere south of $50,000 every year in the 70's and 80's. Yet, when he passed away, was probably in that top 1% for net worth.

Think you guy's are getting the 1% and those .01% that own the planes and yachts kind of mixed up! Making 4 or 5 hundred k doesn't put a person in that category. And most of the people that do have these luxury's don't own them, the company's that they own own them and they just use them and deduct all the cost as business expenses!

If it's legal it ain't stealing. Period.
Remember that when some shyster cons your elderly mother into paying for a hugely overpriced item she doesn't need. But it's legal so it's ok, right? He's just a good salesman and your mother is an adult so it's ok, right?

Don't tell me that if it's legal it's not stealing. This world is full of thieving scumsuckers who stay just inside the law as they steal people blind.

Anyone one buying any thing should know precisely what they are buying and what it is worth. If not, they deserve to be hosed.

In many cases, you are right; but in the case of an elderly or disabled person, it's stealing. They may not have the capacity to understand the film-flam. Not all are a savy as you!

A year or so ago, Rush Limbaugh was speaking of "wealth" and the people who have "real" money. Now Rush has a few bucks himself, and certainly hangs around at times with people with "real" money. He said, paraphrasing now, that the people with "real" money don't consider a person to be really wealthy until he or she has at least $700,000,000 or $800,000,000 dollars. That is "real" money.

I'm afraid I do not qualify. grin

It's likely that nearly every single one of us here on this board is in the top 1% of income earners *in the world*.

If you want to read up on a rich person who really went all out to help poor people, check out Molly Brown, the Titanic survivor. She grew up poor and married poor but her husband made a killing in the gold fields in CO. She became a real philanthropist. However, she didn't just hand out money. She rolled up her sleeves and got dirty.
She was disrespected because she was new money in a time when only old money was respectable but that didn't matter to her when there were people in need.

The true measure of the value of a life lived is in how much of it was given away.

At a funeral, people aren't remembered for the money that they accumulated, or for their
boats, cars, trucks, motorcycles, houses, guns, etc..

This...!

It's not just money, or material things, that comprise the things we can give away during our lives.
