I load for a friends exact same gun including scope. He won a steak dinner over the weekend with this load. 210 Hunting Berger VLD 100 gr. H-1000 Federal 215M primer 3.80" O.A.L. He shot four, two shot groups. Smallest less than 1.5", largest about 3.5".
This was at 500 yards.
The other day at the range he had a .75" two shot group at 300 yards.
He bought Redding dies for his 30-378. Why 2 shot groups? Because their puzzys and can't take the recoil!

Anyone using US 869 for .30-378 WBY loads? There is a good bit of data out there for it but haven't heard many people using it. Looks like it gets a little more velocity than H1000.

I'm shooting the 200 gr Accubond out of mine. Fed 215 primer and 96 grains of IMR 7828, bullets seated to magazine length. This was the first load I tried and my 3 shot groups are averaging right at 0.7" at 100 yds. I haven't chrono'd it yet but should be about 3200 fps. I hope Duster88 can find a good load for his.

Another thumbs-up for the 200 grain Accubond and IMR-7828 powder. This combinatin shot better and faster than H-1000 and although I used more than 96 grains, I got around 3250 over a chronograph. I shot a few elk and deer with this load and although people bad-mouthed the Accubond, I found it to be amazingly consistant in it's performance. This deer was at 800 yards, there was no lag time from when the gun discharged until the deer fell...

Seating depth is key for the 30-378..Berger hybrids are the only bullet I've found that liked to be seated at max mag lenth. One of my favorite loads was the 180 MRX (not made anymore) but now the 175 LRX @ 3.740, 109.5 gr of retumbo.(MAX, work up if you use this bullet) Velocity? Accuracy?

Be sure and check the action screws and the scope and mount screws, recoil with out the break is hearty at best. And check the barrel for copper fowling and chunks of charcoal from the H 5010. The rifles are amazingly accurate when every thing is right.

Shooting 165 gr Nosler BT is a good way to find out what works, Federal 215 are a must when loading over 100grs of powder, 7828 is a lot cleaner burning but H5010 gets more speed. Some of the larger scopes are hard to keep in place with the recoil, keep them tight and low.

Do any of you guys have one of the very early models of this rifle?
On the early models the first series of holes was drilled where the break was tapered down to blend with the barrel, I bought 4 of these rifles because they were hard to get I ordered one from each local dealers, and as they came in I sold them to friends, on each of these rifles the break was as explained above, one day after working up loads, one shot was definitely wrong in some way. I had blown the break off of the end of the barrel, the holes near the taper had stretched and broke, the break went through the 100 yard target about 4 inches the the right of dead center. After inspecting the other three rifles the problem was clear as each one had egg shaped holes that were in the process of failing, Weatherby sent me four new ones after I sent them the three bad ones, I kept the one that blew off just to remind myself about new toys and their dangers.
Just a heads up!

This is what the breaks that failed look like, you can see where the holes were drilled to close to the end and when they cut the taper it weakened the material, and it would not sustain the massive muzzle blast these rifles produce.
