A beautiful growing season has given my friends and neighbors a bountiful harvest from their gardens and I've had the good fortune to share with them through good ol' fashioned generosity. Been living off the fruits of their labor for a bout two weeks now eating all sorts of veggie dishes as well as sammies.Eating a cucumber and onion as I type this. YUM! Tonight's supper will be my homemade sweet italian sausages smothered in bell peppers and onions on toasted buns just like at the county fair. Not as fancy as some of you guys by 24HCF standards but still darn good eats

Tonight alone on "La Frontera" One of my favs. Fried potatoes and onions with a bunch of sliced sausage thrown in. I love this stuff. Usually fried in bacon grease. But non here at the cabin tonight. Hopefully the Hondurans will stay away. I have no dog with me!!

Kaywoody, it's been awhile since I've seen Pearl beer.
Spud soup here tonight, and I checked my arms at the door.

A good shooter is good to have in this country. You never know what's gonna walk in your front door. Ask Blue!! . Also got a Winchester by the nightstand loaded to the gunwales. It can get wild!!!

Kaywoody, you may need to PM your secret knock! That is, if you like any company at all.

Stuffed cabbage rolls tonight! MM, how'd you make them? Mom was visiting and made them. From what I saw- Mix together: 1/2 ground pork, 1/2 ground beef Diced onion Uncooked rice Par boil cabbage leaves Take meat mix, Tbl sp or so, and place in leave, roll up. Place all rolls in a pot or braiser with a bit of liquid, cover with about a half pound of bacon, lid, and simmer. Hour or so? Get a skillet hot with some butter and fry the rolls in batches until brown. Chop up the bacon and make a quick butter pan sauce to put on top. My aunt likes them with a tomato sauce instead of frying and butter sauce. I love them either way.

Corned beef, cabbage, taters. Not sure how this is going to go, we have never corned beef before. Hope we don't end up at Mikey D's.

Corned beef was pretty good, need to adjust the brine next time. Having fun playing with curing meats lately.

Corned beef was pretty good, need to adjust the brine next time. Having fun playing with curing meats lately. Was going to mention that corned beef is pretty hard to screw up. As for the brine that's the easy past. But for corned beef unless you're harvesting your own meat it's almost easier to buy pre-brined meats. And don't forget the horseradish!! Also, I know some do not like crock pots but corned beef, cabbage, taters and carrots were made for a slow cooker. Glad it turned out for ya!!

Thanks, we were cleaning the table and my wife ask "are you making hash for breakfast", that's why I did two roasts.

I agree, David. Corned beef, cabbage, carrots, onions in a big stock pot covered with water and slow boiled for hours is usually how I roll. Because I always cook 2, too.

Time to clean out the freezer. I have several of the prepackaged CBs and this is a good excuse to dig one or two out and have an early St. Patty's day.
