Update on Clara: They were able to take the tube out of her throat. She is breathing on her own now, with a little bit of helium /oxygen from a mask. They put a feeding tube down her nose. Earlier this morning they were able to remove the drain from her head. The nurses were gone when the man came to do it, and neither he nor mom could find the light switches, so she assisted him with the tactical flashlight that was in her jacket pocket (That's my girl!).

Clara is resting peacefully now. So far, she hasn't been awake enough to tell much else. She did try to kick the nurse with her left leg so that's a good sign, they were concerned that she could be paralyzed on that side.

Mom's friend from near here brought her clean clothes and food so that was very helpful.

Glad to hear Clara is showing some improvement. More prayers on the way.

Clara is a true fighter, and her Mom is a testament to all good Moms everywhere

Prayers will continue from here for Clara, her Mom, the medical staff that is treating her, and for you. One of the hardest things in the world is to not be there when you so want to be, but you have to wait at a distance.

How is Clara doing this evening?

Clara is doing as well as can be expected maybe even a little better than that. She is off all her tubes and IV's except for the nasal feed tube. Mom talked to her today and she knew mom's name and her siblings names so that's good. Clara hasn't had a number 1 or 2 since Saturday so she was having abdominal pain but she finally went and is much more peaceful now.

The nurses fitted Clara for a helmet and a special boot for her left (paralyzed) side to keep her foot elevated. Hopefully she'll go to the children's hospital in Seattle in a week and a half and start therapy. Will probably be 4 weeks before they can come back to Spokane. I see a road trip to Seattle in my future, I can't go that long without my woman.

Prayers abound. Eager to know how Clara is doing this AM, and if there are ways to help her mom while in Seattle.

Update: I just got off the phone with mom, Clara is off morphine and just taking Tylenol, she's having trouble going number 1 because she doesn't like using the bedpan or going in diapers. She only has the small feeding tube in now, no IV or other tubes. She's still in ICU, hopefully through the weekend because she has her own room now and will share a room when she leaves ICU.

She moved her left foot again today, that's the side the doctors thought would be paralyzed. She doesn't seem to be able to see out her left eye or hear out her left ear, but children sometimes can make their left brain take over and do what their right brain can't so we're hoping and praying that happens with her later.

Clara's been fitted for a wheelchair and a padded helmet. She has near constant doctors checking on her through the day and she was awake most the day today so she's quite tired now. Her short term and long term memory seem pretty good so that's a great sign.

Mom sounded pretty chipper on the phone so I hope she's doing okay with all this. She's been eating three meals a day, showering and she got seven and a half hours sleep last night, so that helps immensely.

Again, thank you to all of you wonderful people for your prayers and concerns, it means a LOT to her mom and I both!
