Need a little information on an older Remington 700 rifle in 7mm Rem Mag. Its in ADL configuration, with matte blued metal and standard rifle sights....but the odd part is it has a lightweight gray stock (no floorplate). Remington confirms the rifle as a "1987 700 ADL with a gray stock", but the only factory Remingtons I remember from that time period were KS guns. I don't believe the stock was added later, as it has a "Remington" labeled recoil pad. I vaguely remember these guns when I was younger, but just trying to figure out if it is a KS or just a plain old ADL that left with a lightweight stock.

Any guesses? The part that intrigues me is the stock....its smooth finished and extremely lightweight, and I'd have the guess the rifle is under 7lbs.

Ok, now I am thinking it may actually be an FS model...I'll post a few pics once I get a chance.

Sounds like a M700 FS for Fiberglass Stock, those were ADL with rifle sights. Is the bolt matte blued the same as the rest of the rifle? Those were made with Brown Precision stocks and were and still are a tremendous bargain. The only thing I'm not sure of is the date, I don't know that they were made as early as 1987 but certainly could have been.

The other possibility is a Model 70 RS for Rynite Stock, but that would have a definitely placticky feeling stock with more of a pebble grain finish.

Most likely yours is the FS model meaning you have a very nice rifle made in the days when Remington was at the top of their game.

Too much writing on the barrel for it to be an original KS. Could be a Brown Precision stock though.

I've been playing around with the gun, debating on what I want to do with it. I have a set of Talley lightweight base/rings, which was planning on using on an old clip-slot 700 .243, but may use them on this rifle instead. I'm just not sure how much more utility it will have over my Mountain Rifle in .280....if only the rifle were a 7x57!!

It's an ADL/FS. I have one also in 7 Mag, also from '87.

Dang good rifle.

It is a Brown Precision stock.
