Does anyone have any current information on these scopes? I have searched the internet and can't find anything less than a year old. No reviews, tests or owners reports. I am looking for a high quality, light weight tweener scope for my NULA 30-06 and the Leica ER 5 1.5-8x32 seems to fit the bill perfectly. I would like to get some real world information on them before deciding if I should order one.

On paper they look great and most likely are very high quality optics. I think Leica's warranty service is keeping more of them from being sold. A friend sent a ER 2-10x42 back to Leica at the End of August, he was told to expect 18 weeks for it to return. I was going to buy one .............. eek

I was between that scope and the Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8X32. the rep at EuroOptic told me he hadn't been impressed with the new Leica ER5. That combined with my concerns over Leica warranty down the road caused me to go with the Razor.

I never saw the Leica but I am very pleased with the Vortex. I like it better than my Kahles 2-7X36 Helia CL, which I felt was the pinnicle of Tweener scopes up until now.

I've only had it a short time but if it holds up,it will be my new favorite Tweener. I like that the eye relief is very non critical as to perfect position. It is a very easy scope to get behind, glass is sharp all the way to the aluminum tube. The reticle is a very nice bold German #4 hybrid.

I also liked the 2-10 version which I first saw but this one was chosen for weight on my Montana.

What is the problem with the Leica warranty?

I looked at the Vortex Razor HD LH 1.5-8X32 and liked it but the Leica is 4.5 oz lighter, 9 oz vs. 13.5 oz. I'd prefer to keep the weight as low as possible.

1. you have to be the original owner
2. they take 16-18 weeks to return it for repair

I don't know where you got 9 oz. The Leica weaighs 12 oz VS 13.4 for the Razor. The Razor is made by LOW of Japan. The Leica is assembled in US from parts from ?.

Do a search on Leica not honoring their warranty and you will understand the concern.

Order both and send back the one you like least. Most companies will allow you to as long as you don't mount it. I would still like to hear the report on the Leica, but I doubt I would like it better than the Razor.

You are right. The weight is 12 oz. I don't know where I saw 9 oz.

I appreciate all the responses. I will look at the Razor again.

You honestly need to have both in hand to make the decision. I would have liked to have made mine like that, but the doubts over Leica Warranty and the fact that I really liked the bold G4 reticle of the Razor made my decision.
