Good times with family & great friends !

No deer were harmed in the making of this memory.

Oh now, Stop! Excellent menus, 99, and double down on the Bookers! However, I would probably sub your second menu wine selection with a crispy Vernaccia di San Gimignano. smile

Just can't get that place out of my mind. smile

LD, know what you mean. We spent 2 weeks touring Tuscany in 2001, including the little walled village of SG. Have a beautiful print of the village, from below the wall hanging in our living room. Would go back in a heart beat !

Very cool!

I've got one of me looking over the vineyard fields somewhere around here.

ps- We stayed 1 week in an agriturismo in Scandicci, up in the hills outside Florence.

Great area to explore & create fantastic family memories.

Our trip was Deb's extended, immediate family. 12 of us for 3 & 1/2 weeks. Flew into Rome & did a couple of days of "touristing", rented vehicles & drove up into Tuscany. Stayed in an amazing villa in (?), which was a working vineyard. Had a live in cook cleaner, so we could concentrate on doing day trips in the region.

Daughter's most profound memory of the entire trip, was a whole beef carcass, hanging in the window of the butcher shop in SG !

From Tuscany, we drove to Riscone (?) on the Italian Austrian border, for a week, including Christmas & a week of skiing.

From there, we drove to Venice for 4 days, including New Years eve. AMAZING !

Drove back to Rome & flew back to OZ !

Made some different chili tonight.

Black beans, green chorizo a large one and HOT, venison burger, red ancho peppers, and brown anchos that I smoked, pork chops cut off the end of the loin and some beef broth.

The Brown anchos I am not at all certain are really anchos. They taste like an ancho, but they're 6-9 inches long and skinny like a Hungarian paprika pepper. They go from green to brown as they ripen never red. or yellow, No heat to speak of. They added an incredible smokey flavor to the chili and I just used three without the seeds.

The chorizo was mostly serrano pepper based and was manly on the heat side.

I have to do this again.

Ham 'n' green beans tonite. Big 'ol bone in ham outa the smokehouse in a huge pot baked low and slow @ 275 till it fell apart. Remove and set aside covered. Add greens beans and new spuds to ham nectar @ 250 for 90 minutes. Put the whole mess together with hot buttered biscuits on the side. A little sprinkle of apple cider vinegar over the ham doesn't hurt a bit.

Mighty good eats. smile

Soup tonight. I just turned my slow cooker down to warm. Smoked hocks, great northern beans, carrots, celery and chicken stock. My wife will have it with corn bread. No bread for me.
