Per Barnes:
Only the 200gr TSX will comply with the SAAMI specification of 2.82” without putting the ogive below the case mouth in the 350 Rem Mag cartridge. Ogive length of the .358 cal 180gr TTSX is .719” making the shortest COAL length possible with cases trimmed to 2.160” of 2.879”.
Ogive length on the .358 cal 200gr TSX #30455 is .575”.

Very good info here guys, I do appreciate it.
Looks like dad may need to find another bullet. He does not like mashed lead tips or flat-points. Since we are going to load it down a bit, the 200gr FTX is another offering I'm considering. At 2,500fps or so, I bet it will work on whitetails without exceeding the design parameters of the bullet. It's a good killer in the .35Rem, I know.
Now with even more aplomb

The hollow point is significant on the .358 and you won't have any issue with them opening up like they should. See my posts above.

Because I trust what I've been using for almost 40 years. I don't feel any compelling reason to change from what has worked perfectly well.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

This is what a 7mm RM case looks like after running through the sizer die without the inner part as described above. Cut - trim and you're almost there. This works great, but be sure to check your chamber neck dia. I have to turn the necks after making the 350RM cases from 7RM as the loaded dia is larger than the chamber. It can be a real dangerous situation if there's no clearance in the neck. The good thing about it is neck turned brass usually loads much straighter anyway.

I load the 200 tsx in an encore. My barrel likes the short bullets even though I'm not limited to mag length. At 2.90 with R17 I'm getting 2700 fps and it shoots sub moa and hammers the deer. Be careful with the ftx bullets they come unglued if you push them hard. 2500 fps should be ok.
