Buy them to fit and be comfortable. If they shrink it's usually not just a little bit.

I wash merino sweaters in lukewarm water with some kind of soap like woolite, rinse, roll up in a towel to get the water out, then lay it flat in the tub to dry. Works well.

Long underwear just goes in the cold wash and gets dried in the drier. Seem to weather that storm okay.

Hi Jeff. Was just working in your future home town for a bit! I wear nothing but merino wool long john's(Smart Wool, and Ulfrotte), and just throw them in with my normal wash. Working away from home, laundry is kind of a you get what you get thing; no special care. Both brands seem to take it just fine. No need to buy them larger than required, or baby them. I've tried them all, and the merino beats the synthetic stuff in all category's. Same with socks.

Look forward to a meet & greet, when you move to Delta.

Jeff

Just recently bought my first Merino wool. Why did I wait this long? Beats everything else for warm.

Anyway, bought the pants large knowing if it can shrink I can make happen.

Regular cold cycle, low heat dry and they dry quickly. Came out of the dryer same size as new.

Yep. I have wool hunting shirts/pants that haven't been washed in 20 years.

Since I wear wool frequently when it's rain, then the rain takes care of the 'washing'

Will be in touch, next time I hit the K-Pen. We just had a crew down there last week, while I was in Delta & Tok.

I haven't washed any wool in decades too, and I wear a lot of wool shirts, sweaters, pants, etc. When stuff gets a little "gamey", off to the dry cleaners it goes. I'm not going to risk screwing up woolens by home laundering just to save a couple bucks at the cleaners. Ditto cotton dress shirts- for $1.50, no washing, drying, starch and ironing. Heck, the only thing I run through the wash are jeans, underwear, and socks. High tech long johns get washed gently, and air dried.

I picked up a half-dozen Pendleton shirts last Winter for from about $30 to maybe $60. They are machine washable and dryable, but I hang them to dry anyway as the ones I owned years ago gradually got short in the sleeves. They come out great. I much prefer the wool to cotton flannel, chamois, or fleece. I also have a Cabela's washable wool coat that washes well. My other wool stuff gets dry cleaned or just aired out.
