Only been on the ocean a couple of time. Each out of Newport Or. The weather was great in '15, not bad in '16, about six or seven foot swells.

We were on a forty foot charter boat and quite safe. Yet that orange helo overhead each time we went out was a comforting sight.

Scott, I thank you and all your CG mates for your service.

Sorry about the mistake on the location. The site from which I got this stated it was the Columbia River into the Pacific.

It's nothing like this video but it sucked:

Trying to get back 12 miles from shore on Lake of the Woods during a T-storm that turned and came back at us. The 21' Lund literately dropped into the troughs of the 6' waves and disappeared. And then up over the next wave with water dumping in and lightening everywhere. I tried to keep it light because my buddy sitting behind me couldn't swim. He was as white as a sheet. We made it but it was an experience for sure!

Leanwolf,

I'm pretty familiar with that location (Cape Disappointment) and nowhere could you stand on shore and get a starboard aspect of a vessel inbound. Thanks for posting it none the less.

Yep, Grey River bar in full flood, Greymouth New Zealand. It cannot be the Columbia Barr as everyone knows the only people in CA, OR, and WA are just a bunch of piece of [bleep] smowflakes who have no balls.

You got that right. Three things that really try to avoid these days...lightning, getting stuck in the middle of nowhere and rolling my boats.

Is an exercise better taken with an incoming tide. Been thru worse on lesser craft, it keeps you on your toes. Safety harnesses serve a purpose for those on deck.

I don't know where it was filmed, but the lead boat has a Oregon permit on the side of the cabin. The round bartender back accepts the following sea! Not sure how well it takes the stack but it's doing pretty good! High pucker factor going on in both boats!

Even if it's not the CR, it will be a good one to play for the old lady next August right before we hit bouy 10.

NO way in hell. I'd walk around the world and come in from the other side if I had to.

One time I was fishing the bar at Winchester bay, Oregon, known as one of the worst on the Oregon coast.
I was in my 20' jet boat with a 300hp V-8. The last run of the day got just past the bar and saw a huge swell approaching, I was full throttle trying to outrun it, was worried about it breaking over the stern.

The swell lifted me up at least 30' and I was going down the face of it at 50mph.

Going downhill in a boat just aint right!

Luckily it never broke or wash me up on the jettie.

Called it quits for the day and just a few hours later a charter boat ignored the coast guard closing the bar and tried to come in.

A swell lifted his boat and slammed it into the rock jettie, killing most of the passengers and crew.

The captain survived and went to prison!

I dont do the ocean anymore.

I really enjoy fishing, but not that much. Might have just been the photography, but any reason they would stack that close together?

I sure hate it in white water when someone runs up and bumps me from behind while I'm trying to get oriented.

Accent in the background does not sound local to me.

Whether it is the steepness of a mountain, or the size of a sea, I find nothing exaggerates it like actually being there!

We used to think Salmon fishing in 8 footers was fun on Michigan in a 24' boat. You could extend the net straight out the back and have the Salmon dropped in it by the waves.

Was in a buddy's 18 foot slick craft aluminum boat fishing off of point doom in Cali. in 8 foot swells but pretty smooth not choppy.

Up full throttle down off the throttle took an hour or so to get back in the harbor.

My buddy told me it was fine. I was OK my wife was sick as He!! .
I can not image being in sea's like that I think I would be Puckered up for a week.
