The Keith long range front sight was a Patridge blade with gold bars that started at the top of the sight.
The sight on the #5 was an elevation adjustable Patridge blade with a stepped flat face that gave two sight pictures depending on how the rear sight was aligned. A slick setup.
A gold bead is great for speed shooting but no good for holding elevation at long range. Same with a fiber optic front sight--a round ball front sight won't help you at distance.
Here's the Patridge sight on my Bowen Nimrod 45 Colt with three Keith-style gold bars set below the top of the sight. I really like it. Haven't had a chance to try it at long-range yet but it should work well for rock-bustin'
