A 1911 needs a recoil spring & firing pin spring which Wolff sells as a kit, #42128. Those springs are actually for the 10mm Delta Elite. They cost less than $20 & I was up and running. When necessary I can shoot ACP and the gun will cycle.

I am currently using 200 gr lead WFN from Oregon Trail. They are running 1285 fps.

"My preference is for a double stack striker fired pistol."

458Lott,

I had a G21 and Now have a G30 that I shoot 45 Super in. With the Glocks an aftermarket barrel that has more chamber support than the factory barrel is a very good idea... other than that all you need is a 22# or 24# recoil spring (whichever works best in your gun ===> reliable and does not fling your brass into the next county) and 45 Super brass.

But...

I prefer the 1911 for 45 Super because You have what I consider better ways to increase the time that it remains locked vs. just using a heavier recoil spring;

1.) Jack Huntington can adjust the timing for Your 45 super loads to leave it locked a little longer.

and/or,

2.) You can use a combination of the recoil spring, main spring and a flat bottomed firing pin stop ===> To keep it locked longer for your loads.

I had Jack adjust the timing (I had an 18.5# recoil spring in it), and later decided to increase the weight of the main spring. I tried a flat bottomed firing pin stop just to play with, but lost reliable function so went back to the original FPS. (note; You can bevel the bottom of the flat bottomed FPS to tune it to Your load/gun).

Jerry

edited to add; My "Supered" G21, G30 and 1911 all ran standard ball fine, albeit to a diff. POI.

I'm gonna research the HK-45's and see how they shake out.

I don't recall which, but it was either FN or HK stated that their 45 was rated for 45 Super.

Mine is a 12 round double stack, they also make 10 round magazines for states that require them.

Thanks for that JWP.

MallardAddict, I don't quite know yet, was talking to my Smith yesterday afternoon about me buying an STI 2011 lower and having him build me a hi-cap Super or 10MM, am going there today to pick up some completed work and drop off more.
