Anybody know how to get a newer magazine to work properly in a 1950s 760?

What is your problem with newer magazines?

I just today found reference to changing the mag release lever and spring for a 7600 is the cure; can you confirm or know of something else?

Thanks!

But the magazines are not the same for the shorter rounds, which was my point. And yes, the magazines can contort over time and fail to maintain their exact original shape and dimensions, which is why they were redesigned and made more robust.

My 7600 7mm-08 wouldn't always strip the first round from my magazines (both newer style and older style). I slightly bent the magazine lips so the rounds will sit higher under the lips. My problem seems to be different than yours.

I have a 35 whelen that once belonged to Mule Deer, he said in an article in rifle magazine that he had worked the trigger over. It has a great trigger, you might drop him a PM and pick his brain on what he did to get it that way.

Same is true for the .35 Rem, which are almost impossible to find, .308 will work.

I think I have a .35 Rem mag laying around. It didn't for chit in my .35 Rem. But...the LA .270/280/3006/35W mag worked in it perfectly. Rem mags are a crap shoot at best.

Then I'm confused. Why would they mark them for different uses instead of just having one uni-mag for all 760 calibers?

I'm not really sure. I had a .35 Rem 760 that had a marked 35 Rem mag. The mag wouldn't feed for squat. I used a 760/7600 long action mag on a whim and it fed like butter.

Not surprised the mag for longer round worked OK for the shorter, can't imagine the reverse would be true. I just traded my .35 Rem a few days ago, so can't test to see if a .30-06 would fit in, but doubt that it would.

That sounds right, I would have guessed those would all be interchangeable.

It wouldn't. At least not very well. They're is a "block" in there to keep the smaller rounds in place.
