Reverse seared filet mignon. Sauteed yellow squash with onions, chopped garlic, fresh thyme, chopped parsley, Greek evoo from Crete, sprinkled parmesan. Mashed red potatoes with chopped parsley and minced shallots. Tried something different for a change with the reverse sear. It's actually a little more done than I typically like. RARE and hair, baby!

Beef soup bones out for tomorrow, any ideas? Try this soup: ................................... The food section of the local newspaper had this recipe. This has become a family favorite. One thing I'll note is the barley the recipe calls for is "quick" pearl barley. That makes it about a one hour soup. If regular pearled barley is used, it needs to simmer most of the day - not that that's a bad thing! Beef and barley vegetable soupPeninsula Clarion 1 pound lean ground beef 1 small onion, chopped One cup sliced celery 1 cup fresh sliced carrots 1/2 (10-ounce) bag fresh cut green beans 1 medium to large zucchini, sliced 1/2 (10-ounce) box frozen spinach 1/2 cup frozen peas 2 cloves garlic, minced 3 quarts low-sodium beef broth 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes, undrained 1-1/2 cups "quick" pearled barley 1 tablespoon fresh minced parsley, plus more for garnish 1 teaspoon dried basil 1-2 bay leaves Salt and fresh ground black pepper In a large Dutch oven, over medium heat, lightly brown meat. Drain off all but 1 tablespoon of the fat, then stir in onion, celery, carrots and green beans. Cook for 10 minutes. (If needed, some water to the cooking pot.) Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in broth, tomatoes (crush tomatoes lightly with your hands), barley, parsley, basil, and bay leaf. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add zucchini, spinach and peas and cook 10 minutes more. Season with salt and fresh ground pepper, to taste. Remove bay leaves and garnish with fresh minced parsley before serving. Makes about 16 (1 cup) servings. http://www.peninsulaclarion.com/stories/010610/foo_543472417.shtml originally posted here: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...s/3940316/Beef_and_barley_vegetable_soup

Mike what is chicken in the woods? Simple....everything in the woods taste like chicken!! Except for the woods, which taste like wood. Unless it's chicken killed in the woods. Or you feed wood to the chicken. But you can't feed chicken to the woods. However, you can eat chicken in the woods, which will taste like chicken in the woods. But it won't taste like woods in the chicken. Ketchup!! I love this thread. My fav for sure!!

Tonight it was home made jambalaya. White meat was rabbit, two kinds of elk sausage, hot italian sausage, and shrimp . Served with hush puppies. It did not suck!

fungi the version I found was more of a large clump of mushroom(edible) smooth on bottom. I was cutting chunks to fru that were 1/2 thick by 2 by 3. I took it to our County Extention office to get it verified. Never saw one before but there is another one out there for thr next trip that was about a gallon in size. I have friends kiddingly tell me to text them tomorrow to make sure I survived!!! Haha you are correct chicken of the woods or some say hen of the woods.

Kaywoodies sliced and diced pork sausage, onions, and potatoe ragout ! The secret is 3 tablespoons of minced garlic and it's all fried in pure hawg lard. I utilize a lot of lard. Damn it was delicious as usual!!!
