I have been looking at Wilson select match grade barrels on ebay, and they are making some bragging statements about them being the same quality as schillen for 100.00 less. They claim that they are the same barrel used on Cooper rifles. Is there truth to the quality claim, or is it getting what you pay for?

They claim that they are the same barrel used on Cooper rifles True story, and at one time made them for Kimber too.

How do they stack up against Shilen barrels?

I have one Wilson barrel that I got cheap, but don't know that I'd rate it at the same tier as Hart or Shilen.

How do they stack up against Shilen barrels? One on top of the other. Or, you can do what I do, and lean 'em in the corner.

Wilson barrels is a big barrel maufacturer and they build them to the spec the company wants. They make a lot of AR-15 barrels for many companies including some of the big name ones, they build thousands of barrel per month.
While it can be said that they are the same company that builds barrels for Cooper they are not necessarily built to the same spec as the Cooper barrels.
The Cooper barrels compare favorably with Shilen but they are built to Cooper specs. I have rifles with both on them and with a borescope and in performance I can detect no difference.

Exactly. Many large barrel companies make different grades of barrels--including both Shilen and Wilson.
Wilson was sold maybe 10 years ago, and a few years later the new owner bought Cooper as well, so it makes sense that Cooper uses Wilson barrels.

I believe Wilson once made barrels for Ruger during the tang safety M77 days. Some of those had a reputation for shooting pretty poorly, I had a 7mm rem mag that would hit the side of a barn if you closed the doors and shot it from the inside.
Shilen makes good barrels. By the time you pay for fitting and chambering it rarely makes sense to use a cut rate barrel. It's penny wise and pound foolish.

Wilson barrels I have and have seen used, are all solidly MOA and just under typically. On ARs.
Shilen barrels I've had and seen used are typically closer to .5 moa on ARs.

The Wilson barrel on my RRA is one of the best shooting easy to clean barrels I've ever owned!

Shilen won the Service Rifle Presidents100 at Perry this past year and I think a 3rd place. They won the team match with a new record. Never used a Wilson, so I can't comment on them.

I don't know who made the barrels, but I have 2 tang safety Ruger Model 77's. One is a heavy barrel in 220 Swift and the other is a sporter in 30-06. Both are MOA! I've heard bad things re Wilson barrels 10+ years ago, but if my Ruger barrels are indicative, they do shoot.

10 years ago is about the last time I bought a wilson, having quit shooting matches in 2004... they shot fine back then, but again note my previous post....

Wilson air gauged 20" heavy barrel in 5.56mm on my AR. Shoots 5 of Black Hills 75 HP ammo into .900" @ 100m.
Good accuracy for a black rifle IMHO.

thats ok accuracy for an AR, they should almost all be capable of that accuracy.
Good barrels will hover .5 moa to distance, in 10 shot groups generally speaking.
Didn't know Wilson Air guaged their tubes.
Do know that for a practice barrel or truck gun I'd take a wilson, assume it to be MOA or just under and be happy enough for most purposes.

Wilson Arms bought Cooper Rifles from Dan Cooper back in 2009.
