Sure, a lot of us fish year round but there's something really nice about getting out on those trips in the spring where you no longer worry about the line freezing in the guides or the blood freezing in the veins.

Just a few pics on a stream local to our camp from last weekend. I hope you're all seeing such enjoyable sites (Yes, a few fish were caught but just enough to know they are there)

And back at Camp. Another "fish" I like to see. grin

With high country snow melt, we'll be running bank full and off color for about another month. Lakes and ponds are fishing well though.

Went down to the river yesterday just to see. Blown out so bad I'm thinking mid June before it's even worth it.

The only downside to you folks with real mountains is that spring run off. Back in the day when I used to go to Airwing Fallon when our squadron mates headed to the bars in Tahoe my roommate and I headed to the small streams in the Sierras and it was always a crap-shoot prior to July.

Great photos and a GREAT brew! Just left Mich. w/o picking up a couple 6 packs.. That stuff is awesome on draft.. Don't care much for beer in cans or bottles, but I should have picked up a couple of those.... Enjoy.. I'll get a few in Aug. when we go for salmon!

Nope - Little stream up in PA. I generally wait until late June to fish the Savage when they get decent hatches as it's a haul over there even from our camp.

The Savage is a bit more of a freestone - treacherous wading. Here's up where I fish it.

It's as bad as some of the steelhead and salmon streams I waded in PacNW. All the rocks are mossy and lots of deep holes with sudden drops offs. The idiots in MD DNR have banned felt soles on waders (but apparently greenstick fractures are A-OK eek ) wading staff and very careful.

I've heard amazing things about these http://www.patagonia.com/product/ultralight-river-crampons/79196.html but I just can't seem to pull the trigger on them for a stream I fish 3-4 times a year.

That might work very well. Any reviews from the crowd? Certainly much more reasonable cost.

They outlawed the felt here a few years ago, too. Completely asinine! The science was not done and the one study they used was deeply flawed and panned when peer-reviewed... POST creating a huge fuss with multiple states banning felt as a result.

Seems the phosphates in laundry detergent had a bigger effect on didimo and other growths of concern and the chances of felt soles carrying them while laces and waders did not is utterly ridiculous.

Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

They work great on ice. Never tried them in the stream.

Now that I'm on a computer instead of my tablet, I can give a better response.

These have a strap across the top of the foot that really helps keep them on the shoe. The ones without the strap sometimes come off while you are walking. If the stream trekkers don't have that strap, I'd advise either passing, or planning on putting one on.
All of the fedex and ups delivery guys use these in the winter around here.

We got a little rain last week and the river I fish went from 900 cfs to a little over 23,000, and down to 4960 now.

I try to fish it at 750 and below, we needed the rain so it all works.

Such is spring. You'll be happy for the water later.

Treacherous wading . . . If they are anything like some of the E. TN streams the rocks are like walking on greased glass.

Glad we do not have that here in middle TN.

Yep. Small stream and usually no wind in the trees and valleys so usually a 3 or 4 weight, although I've caught a few fish on a Tenkara rod this spring and that's going to be fun to play with once summer levels settle in.
