I used the 200 gr. Speer pushed to 2850 with IMR 4831. I have a sample of one, a little 6 point, shot at 6 yards through the neck. It worked, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it on bigger deer at a greater distance.

For a 300 Win. the 130 grain Barns at middling velocity works well but I ended up going back to full power loads as the recoil was not that much different. Any medium weight bullet that splits the velocity difference between the 06 and the H&H will work well. Many of the starting loads will be in this or close to this range. Keep adding powder until you get the accuracy level your looking for.

At or just slightly above 06 velocities most cup and core bullets will perform well no need for anything expensive. Any of the middle to slower powders should do. Those in the 4350 to 4831, R22 range are a good starting point if not overly reduced.

For reduced loads I check the Lyman manual and see if the same powder is used for both cast and jacketed bullets if so then you know the safe range for that powder and have a rough idea of velocity.

I own/have owned numerous rifles in 30 caliber. The 300 H&H is one of my fav's.

Here's mine

[Linked Image]

It started life as a Rem. 700 Custom KS in 375 H&H and was re-barreled to 300 H&H and accurized by HCR. I gave it a Krylon Webbing spray, rattle can paint job.

The gent I purchased it from had several boxes of factory ammo.

The 180 gr. Barnes TSX are killers........

However, my go to load for the 300 H&H is 180 gr. Nosler Accubonds over 69 Gr. RL-19, Fed. 215M primers at 3.580" OAL

It is a porker perforator.

personally i dont think you have to search or think to much about it, downloading something down to around a 30.06 or thereabouts.

I can tell you this, few years ago buffalo hunting in colorado.
partner had a 300H&H and he was running 180grain i think it was failsafes in it.
at about 100yards he popped a bull. It didn't go anywhere.
we didn't put it on a scales but estimated live weight around 1400pounds or so.
Upon opening it up, it blew the top half of it's heart out.
