I have one of the lighter, more accurate models. The Savage lightweight Hunter. I still prefer the look and feel of the Ruger though.

As much as I wanted to keep it, I knew someone else would use it more, so I gave it to Dad's favorite grandson. And I've long wanted my own UL, though I don't really NEED one.

One thing about Dad's UL Ruger - it was easy to handle, pointed great, and just plain felt good in my hands. And, as Dad aged, that light rifle was easy for him to carry. He hunted with it into his early 80's.

I think the ULs that are out there are new leftover from when Ruger was making them.

It shoots Federal 80,95,100 gr ammo very well.
It`s a joy to carry.
The reason I buy Rugers is their scope rings.
All the mounting screws are readily accesssed when going over the rifle.
As previously stated it will walk some as the barrel heats up.
Both of those deer on the wall were one shot kills so it`s somewhat of a moot issue.
The Hawkeye lite weight may be a little tough to find as it was discontinued.
Savage makes a lite weight but I don`t know much about it.

I have a Savage lightweight hunter in 223. It easily outshoots the Ruger. The Ruger looks better and feels better though, and since a gun need only be accurate enough to hit its intended target, my nod goes to the Ruger.

I had one in 30-06. It wasn't particularly light nor accurate.

I just handled a Ruger 77 Ultralight in 30-06 tang safety yesterday at the gun store. The thin barrel profile caught my eye as it looked very similar to my Remington 700 Mtn Rifle. If it was any caliber other than 30-06 I probably would have taken it home. I bet that gun kicks like a mule as light as it was.

No more a misnomer than Win. claiming to be a 'featherweight'
