This combination of features is idiotic. I am surprised to see Lipsey miss the mark like this.
The brake is a hearing liability. There better be a darn good reason for one. Maybe this is more a cosmetic (rambo theme) flash hider and not a ear busting brake. Well, it looks like a honest ear busting brake to me.
The American 450 is a handy 5.5 pound rifle. That is practical deer rifle in special permit states that allow the 450. The brake might help those very recoil sensitive shooters. The 450 is not much of a heavy hitter. I would just guess, it makes a superb deer load and the American should be a fine performer in that role.
The No1 is a whopping 7.5 pounds. Just plain stupid/ignorant beyond belief. What use it this war club and why in the world does it need a brake? it need a light synthetic stock and a thin barrel with a brake OR as a heavy rifle, nice stock and plain barrel. Definitely, a future collectable. That is a purly useless low volume gun that only has appeal to the future collector.

This is NOT a Lipsey's offering; it is from Ruger!

All No1 are a collaboration between Lipsey and Ruger. No caps or ! needed. Look at the ruger website and all 7 models listed are shown as Lipsey exclusive. Does it matter?
The American 450 threads, quote: "Compact threaded barrel (11/16"-24 thread pattern) with Ruger® Muzzle Brake etc, etc, ..." I expect the No1 is the same. I suppose the brake could be replaced with a thread protector. Ruger could offer some kind of bayonet attach brake cover for hunting and remove for range shooting. They dont, I mean they could. That would be an interesting gunsmith project. For the ranch rifle perhaps.
The combination of features on the Ranch rifle make sense with a very light and quick rifle 16" barrel at 5.5 pounds (before scope). The No1 at 7.5 pounds (before scope) is a collector novelty with features that some one though had eye appeal.
If some one wants one, any back yard FFL, who does your $25 online transfers and can place the order for you direct from Lipsey. You pay wholesale & shipping plus his $25 fee, all up front in cash I would imagine or cc with some adjustments. I dont know what wholesale is, probably around a 1000 and change.

It should be a shorter rifle than the American - no magazine. And in some states may be considered a primitive weapon, usable in extra seasons. Last, being a single shot, you have more flexibility as to bullets and OAL. Whether or not that's worth a #1 price tag, YMMV edit, well I see the American has a 16" barrel, so no the #1 won't be shorter with a 20" It's still a matter of the above if it will be usable to some folks.

Another cheap(er) option for them as have already got a frame (note the WV phraseology) would be an Encore barrel or maybe a Contender (don't know if that's a safe option). The TCs would be only a little ooglier than the No.1.

Or buy the No1 in 44mag, that meets all the special state rules and 1/2 pound lighter and looks the part.

The .450 Bushmaster is the hot ticket here in lower Michigan. It seems everyone is buying Ruger Americans. They are cheap and accurate (and as elegant as a fence post). Without the brake, they are not pleasant to shoot; the butt is narrow and it feels like the pad is too soft and collapses.
That being said, that #1 is butt ugly! I would like to have have a #1 in .460 S&W which is also legal here; head space on the rim rather than mouth and higher max operating pressure.

I like the 460. No idea if it will be a long term success. There is nobody, other than S&W, in the revolver spaced that can make a gun for that or the 500. The 500 is rock solid suceess. The 460 is a little too much finesse for most. Now Michigan might give the 460 a boost too. The 460 seems a natural in a single shot. The 460 & 450 use the same bullets and there are some pointy options.
I also disliked how the 450 BM head spaces, but given the rules in Michigan, I understand why it would be popular. The 44mag is popular around here, where if longer range is needed just use the 7mm-08, etc. Under Michigan special rules the 6&7mm guns are not an option.

All of the 2016 rifles on Rugers website are Lipseys. The 2017 450 bushmaster is the last one they are going to do, as far as I know.

I saw the No1 in 450BM a few days ago. I have to say my negative opinion is unchanged. This is not to my taste.
Just to offer a contrary view. Consider this. There a whole new generation of shooters who started out with AR-15 and perhaps graduated to a black bolt action. Their whole universe is black guns and black calibers. This No1 might serve as an intro to many young shooters into the world of the single shot. I dont mean black in color, literally, its a type. The 450 bushmaster No1 might be a good thing to drawn some new buyers. Even old buyer looking for different. It is different. How many same-old same-old does the 'average' nut want. In my case, the last Ruger No1 I purchased was several year ago. I now have two and I dont plan on buying another. Could happen, Never say never. On the other hand, there are a lot of shooters out there who maybe eager to try something different. For them any No1, is a big difference.

Not to my taste either, but possibly better looking than other choices. A feller could always buy a stock set off Ebay and replace the brake with a cap, but that would add to the already exorbitant price (in my mind, anyway). Certainly, it's a rugged piece that wouldn't have to be babied.
Sure am glad I got my new Number 1 from Darrik when I did.

Folks: I was at the Bob Wards chain sporting goods store in Butte, Montana last Friday and they had a short barreled Ruger #1 in 44 Remington magnum - is that a new or rare factory offering? TIA Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

There is a current run of 44 mag. so not really rare at this point.
The 450 #1 was a design failure.
The only advantage of the 460 over the 450 is the rim and ability to roll crimp. In bolt or single shots, case capacity and potential velocities are pretty much the same

This may be old news, but there is also a limited edition .450 in blue/walnut without that God-awful tank brake and with iron sights, same configuration as the .44 Mag and the new .460 S&W & .475 Linebaugh. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/692211080
